Hi, I see the 144K in Revelation 14 as the Church because: v.3 - these souls are the "redeemed from the earth." Redemption came only after the Gospel (death, burial, and resurrection of Christ), which is the foundation of the Church Age/Grace Dispensation. v.4 - these souls are "virgins" meaning that these are ones that avoid spiritual adultery, false and seducing doctrines, and anything else that oppose the Gospel. I see this as a statement to describe the Church because, although the Jews had the Law breakers and idolatry to deal with, the Church gravely deals with false religions, false doctrines, and heresies. Not to participate in these - staying spiritually pure - at a time when many are compromising the Gospel, is to be a virgin spiritually. v.4 also states that "they follow the Lamb withersoever He goeth" meaning that these souls are lead by the Word and His spirit. It is in the Church age where souls are lead by Jesus Christ Who is the Word, which is spirit and life (John 6:63). I don't believe that the 144K is a concrete number (like there will only be 144K Jews going to God's everlasting Kingdom). I believe it is a reference to God's number system (for example, like 7 is the number for perfection?). I don't know the number system that well, but I know that each number has its own significance to the Kingdom of God. Thanks for your response, WalkingTalkingBible |

Hello WTB, v. 3 - Your explanation is incorrect. Redemption is found throughout the Old Testament. For example... Exodus 15:13 (ESV) You have led in your steadfast love the people whom you have redeemed; you have guided them by your strength to your holy abode. Psalm 31:5 (ESV) Into your hand I commit my spirit; you have redeemed me, O Lord, faithful God. v. 4 - There is no reason to spiritualize "virgins" since the explanation for the word is in the verse--had not defiled themselves with women. Hi Steve, in the OT, redemption was according to obedience of the rule in each dispensation. For example, in the dispensation of Conscience, souls were responsible for knowing the difference between right and wrong. In the dispensation of Law, they were responsible for obeying the Law. But redemption by the blood of the Lamb, was not in the OT. Mount Zion is typical figure of the Church (Obadiah 1:17; Isaiah 2; Psalm 2). If you look at verse 4 in the natural sense, then wouldn't this mean that the 144K were only men who were virgins? What about men who defile themselves with men, are they part of the 144K since they didn't defile themselves with women? I have to look at this verse as speaking of spiritual purity because natural virginity without Christ as Savior is worthless. Thanks for your response, WalkingTalkingBible |

Hello WTB, I would rather state that redemption is according to the obedience of the redeemer, not the redeemed. The one for whom the price is paid is redeemed regardless of any obedience. There's no reason for me to push harder concerning any typology (or lack thereof) which might be present. One cannot be strictly literal in the verbage concerning defilement and virginity, but there can be debate as to where the line is drawn. Steve |
