1 | Can salvation be lost? | Jude 1:5 | knucklehead | 123935 | ||
How does one know if he's saved? We don't know if we'll be saved tomorrow, but we can have confidence that the One that judges righteously will not forget our works and the love we have had for his name up until today. We must be careful not to judge others or ourselves - righteous or unrighteous. I submit a Kalos style rendering of 1 Cor 12:10: "So, if you think you are standing firm, don't worry, you won't fall!" |

Greetings Knucklehead! You asked, 'How does one know if he's saved?' Let's see what Scripture says about this same question: Acts 16:30 - "He then brought them out and asked, 'Sirs, what must I do to be saved?' 31 They replied, 'Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household.'" Now, you and I would agree that salvation can be willfully rejected. However, there simply isn't any support in Scripture for the concept that our salvation is in doubt depending upon how good we are throughout our lives. We know that we are saved if we have called upon the Lord in faith. We know it simply because He promised it. We also know from Scripture that we are not saved by our works, but by grace. My great fear with your position is that it turns very quickly into a works salvation. If I can earn, I'll get it. Yet, Scripture is very clear that our salvation is an accomplished work - done by Christ, not by us. Now, it is commendable to want to serve Him faithfully and carefully. But, nothing we can do can make us less saved or more saved (with the exception of outright willful rejection of salvation). I don't have to go through life hoping that I'll have been good enough. Christ paid it all for me. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
