Subject: Can salvation be lost? |
Bible Note: Greetings Knucklehead! You cite 1 Peter 4:17, but you seem to be drawing a false inference from it. 1 Pet. 4:17 does not say, 'Continue doing good so that you will be saved!' Rather, it speaks to those who are suffering for their faith and they are commanded to commit themselves to their faithful Creator and continue to do good'. Why? Because, it is God's will that they suffer for their faith and respond to it with good works that they might be witnesses to those persecuting them. Nothing in this passage speaks of doing good to earn salvation. The 'hard' doesn't refer to the difficulty of 'keeping' salvation, but to the difficulty of 'living' it out in a sinful world that hates us because of our faith. Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
