1 | Can salvation be lost? | Jude 1:5 | knucklehead | 123921
Kalos: Does the Bible contradict itself? Though every man be found a liar, may God be found true! How does one reconcile this and other verses speaking of the need of endurance or to resist Satan's influence in order to be saved? I'll just cite two of dozens: "Don't grumble against each other, brothers, or you will be judged. The Judge is standing at the door!" (James 5:9)"Deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus." (1Cor 5:5) I always tell people: It's not the Bible the contradicts, but interpretation. Why do Paul, John, James, Jude and Peter write so much about the need to fight the fine fight and hold a good conscience if no risk of losing salvation? "AMPLIFIED John 5:24 I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, the person whose ears are open to My words [who listens to My message] and believes and trusts in and clings to and relies on Him Who sent Me has (possesses now) eternal life. And he does not come into judgment [does not incur sentence of judgment, will not come under condemnation], but he has already passed over out of death into life." DOESN'T THIS CLINGING, RELYING, TRUSTING, BELIEVING HAVE TO CONTINUE FOR THE JESUS STATEMENT TO REMAIN TRUE? People need to know the truth. |

The most powerful question, in my opinion, posted in this thread is from your post "Why do Paul, John, James, Jude and Peter write so much about the need to fight the fine fight and hold a good conscience if no risk of losing salvation?" I do hope a multitude of folks read this thread and your post in particular. I do believe you've head the crux of the matter with a dead on bombshell. Blessings to you. Country Girl |

3 | Can salvation be lost? | Jude 1:5 | BradK | 123929
Country Girl, "Why do Paul, John, James, Jude and Peter write so much about the need to fight the fine fight and hold a good conscience if no risk of losing salvation?" How about so that we "would have a walk worthy of our calling?" (Eph.4:1) The most powerful denial in the above question is that no one, at any time is ever certain of their salvation. And, in my mind, it begs the simple-yet un-addressed question of "How does one know they are saved?" I don't buy the "Proof-Text" responses because CONTEXT is sorely missing! It is my (studied and humble) opinion that the theology you're appearing to endorse, leaves absolutely no confidence that any of us can ever, at any time, know for certain our eternal destiny. 4 | Can salvation be lost? | Jude 1:5 | Country Girl | 123931
I would submit that the only way of being confident of our salvation is after a lifetime of studying God's Word, obeying what we read and maturing in a close spiritual relationship with our Lord. I've lived quite a few years and I've only known a small handful with that kind of confidence as cited in 1 John. But I do think it's attainable by anyone who devotes himself as mentioned above. But if it were easy, then that would go counter to our Lord's Words about the straight and narrow gate to Heaven vs. broad and wide road to Hell, wouldn't it? Blessings to you. Country Girl |

5 | Can salvation be lost? | Jude 1:5 | BradK | 123932
Country Girl, Thanks for your response. I'll leave this discussion after these 2 questions, because I'm curious: 1. Are you saved? 2. What is salvation? In other words, how would you define it? Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

6 | Can salvation be lost? | Jude 1:5 | Country Girl | 123963
1. Yes, very definitely. I became a christian at the young age of 13. I've had ups and downs in my life and have been unfaithful but I've been restored and am now quite faithful. I'm now a member of a very good, dedicated bunch of christians who encourage me and work with me to be the best christian I can be. 2. I have full confidence in my salvation because I have obeyed the commands of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I have complied with ALL of His terms and conditions so I can receive His gift of salvation. I'm growing in my spiritual relationship with Him and His Father every day. I study His Word and am getting to know It better and better. I think my attitude is closer and closer to the heros in the Bible about whom we read. I love to share the best parts of my life with others so as to encourage them. I don't hesitate to mention the mistakes I've made IF they come up, especially if it's beneficial to help someone through their own crisis. How about you? What is your response to these same two questions? Blessings to you. Country Girl |

7 | Can salvation be lost? | Jude 1:5 | jalanlambert | 123974
Country Girl, Scripture says, (Romans 6:23) "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord". God is Holy and cannot look upon sin. We by our very nature are sinful, and according to you subject to lose our salvation at any time. Scripture says that if we say that we sin not we are a liar and the truth is not in us. I think you will agree with me that we all sin. James 4:17 says "Therefore, To him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin." Every time the Spirit of God speakes to you to do Gods will and you ignored it you would need to be saved again. James 2:10 says "For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all." Sin separates us from God, and if we think we can keep ourselves saved, we are wrong. My question to you is how many times have you been saved today? Because the thinking that you present requires a continual effort that is beyond human ability. Every sin would require you to repent, then get saved once more. So I ask, how many times have you been saved today? And now is your being saved a result of the finished work of Jesus Christ, or your own ability to keep saved? Country Girl you would be getting saved several times each day. Remember when you first accepted Jesus Christ as your Savior, and how that felt? Do you feel like that when you repent for not doing Gods will, or for that bad thought you had about someone? Why would you not declare before the Church and/or your friends that you were saved again and again in any given day? In love Jal |

8 | Can salvation be lost? | Jude 1:5 | Country Girl | 123983
I can only repeat what the Bible clearly teaches as follows 1 John 1:4 These things we write, so that our joy may be made complete. 1 John 1:5 This is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you, that God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all. 1 John 1:6 If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth; 1 John 1:7 but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin. 1 John 1:8 If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us. 1 John 1:9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar and His word is not in us. Here, we see we're all guilty of sin and like you mentioned, every day we're guilty at the very least of NOT doing all the good we can possibly think of. So what are we to do? I would refer to those verses that speak to the "practice" of sin. If we're living our lives on a continuing basis, repeating our sins over and over again with no real intent of repenting and giving up those sins of commission or omission, that's where we run into trouble. We MUST make it a part of our routine, at least on a daily basis of repenting of our sins that day and asking for forgiveness so as to stay in good fellowship with our God and our His family here on earth. Hope this helps. Blessings to you. Country Girl |

9 | Can salvation be lost? | Jude 1:5 | jalanlambert | 123985
Country Girl, If someome that was never saved lived a perfect life (we know they can't) except for one sin. Would God condemn that person to a lost eternity? Of course He would. What makes your occasional sin (not practice of sin) acceptable to God? And if unacceptable then God must judge it for what it is. SIN. Sin separates us from God. Again, How many times have you been saved today? We are saved by grace, the grace of God alone. Our relationship to Him is affected by our sin not our position. We are called heirs of God, joint heirs with Jesus Christ.(Romans 8:17). In Love, Jal |

10 | Can salvation be lost? | Jude 1:5 | Country Girl | 124017
I guess I would have to compare this relationship to one of a credit account with a store, or some other source of credit. In this scenario, the company issues a line of credit to the user and they maintain that line of credit and allow the user to continue using the account and make purchases, maybe even raising the ceiling of the account. BUT this is all based on the continuing maintenance of payments from the user on a regular basis. It's absolutely paramount as you know in today's world of business for the user to maintain his end of the bargain by making these payments or he/she jepordizes the closure of the account and maybe even forfiture of some of his posessions. In the same way, you and I without Christ are totally lost in a world of sin as we all "owe our souls to the Devil." But then Christ came into the world and literally bought us from the Devil with His own blood. He purchased all of us so that we could come live with Him and His Father in Heaven. Now of course, He left this world with His Last Will and Testament offering a free gift of salvation. All we have to do is fulfill his terms and conditions and accept His gift of redeeming blood. But that also means we have an account with Him, a line of credit if you will. He'll help us avoid falling deeper into debt with the Devil if we'll avail ourselves of His power and avoid those temptations. We must pray constantly as Paul states "without ceasing." We must study our Bibles, God's Word and find out all the rest of the terms and conditions, all the other commands in the NT to which we must obey. You see, we must maintain "our end of the bargain" and stay in the light of God's fellowship as described in 1 John. We must do everything in our power to imitate Christ and keep that relationship with Him and His Father alive and active. We can't allow it to grow stale or suffer from neglect for that's when we get ourselves into trouble and backslide into a life of sin and debt with the Devil. He loves to win back his old patrons. Yes, indeed Jesus' blood will indeed cover our sins on that all important Judgment Day IF we've done our part and maintained that close, personal relationship with our Lord. Remember just because a person says "Lord, Lord" that alone IS NOT going to get him to Heaven but "he that doeth the will of My Father"...that's the key. Obedience to God has always been one of the main themes throughout the Bible. Blessings to you. Country Girl |

11 | Can salvation be lost? | Jude 1:5 | Mommapbs | 124019
I respectfully disagree with your claim: "Yes, indeed Jesus' blood will indeed cover our sins on that all important Judgment Day IF we've done our part and maintained that close, personal relationship with our Lord." Country Girl - we are saved by Grace, period. There is no such thing as a "conditional salvation" such as you have expressed in this post. Either Jesus blood is sufficient or it is not. What you are saying is that our "works of obedience" are necessary to get to Heaven and that is just not so according to Eph 2:8-9. Romans 10:9-11 also tells us that the only thing we do is to respond to God's offer of what Christ has already DONE - He is the One who has been obedient and we believe in that obedience as a payment for our sin. We DO nothing to maintain the Grace that we are given upon our confession of faith in the FINISHED work of Christ. No one is disagreeing with your postition on living a Godly life, but the purpose you present for doing so is not Biblical - what you are espousing is focused is on performance, on self effort not on Jesus. HE is THE Theme of the Bible - it's all about what God has done for us, not what we do for God! Blessings, mommapbs |

12 | Can salvation be lost? | Jude 1:5 | jalanlambert | 124042
mommapbs, I agree and appreciate your explanation of grace and Gods unconditional love through His Son Jesus Christ. I think it is sad to see people torn between loving God for His gift of salvation to us and their need to accomplish some work to prove their love, in order to continue to be saved. If it were up to me to keep myself saved, I wouldn't have a chance. My flesh will keep me from God. I will never be perfect in this body. However, my desire to be perfect (pure) is not because I want to stay saved. It is because I understand that I can't keep myself saved and that that was accomplished for me on calvery's cross. It comes from the love I now have for Jesus for saving me. When in heaven if asked why should I let you in, my reply will be because Jesus Christ paid for all my sins, and that alone. On the other hand some will want to give an account of the works that they did, as if that will wash away any of their sins. Works are just an expression of obedience to Him and our love for Him. It has nothing to do with staying saved. In Love, Jal |

13 | Can salvation be lost? | Jude 1:5 | Country Girl | 124057
Based on this position from you and Mommaphs, can you kindly explain James 2 to me, along 1 Jn 1:5-10 and Mt 25:31-46? It seems pretty clear from these scriptures the Lord is expecting to see something in our lives to show evidence of the Christianity that we claim about ourselves. There are many, many other scriptures I could reference like the parable of the debtor in prison and the vine and the branches, but I'm trying to be brief. In summary, there's just SO much in the Bible that clearly teaches we must go to Heaven with some kind of proof or evidence to truly show our devotion and love to our God. I appreciate this dialouge and blessings to you. Country Girl |
