Greetings Imf! May I ask you a personal question? Have you ever lost a child to illness? I have! My first son was born with congential heart defects. He lived for 9 months. Everytime I read posts like this one, it tears my heart out - not for me, but for all of those families who may have lost loved ones, then read these responses, and think that they did something wrong. I am secure enough in my faith to know better, but many aren't. God doesn't make us sick (usually). Sickness and death are a result of the fall. So, when a baby is born with a congential heart defect, it isn't because he, or his parents, did something wrong. It just happens. (Though some actions on the part of the parents can result in sickness for the child - like drug abuse). The sad reality is that we live in a fallen world. God is His grace will sometimes intervene and bring healing, but not always. Think about it for a second my friend. If 1 Peter 2:24 is teaching that all of the physical effects of sin were healed on the cross, then no one would ever die. No one would ever be sick. Yet, everyone still dies. Why? Because, as Paul tells us in Rom. 8, creation is still groaning, awaiting that glorious transformation which will occur when we are glorified. There will come a day when there will be no more sickness, no death, no tears, and no mourning. But, that day has not come yet. Our son was prayed for by many. I have seen God heal, and I firmly believe in the power of prayer. But, I also believe in the sovereignty of God. God, in His sovereignty, allowed our son to die in spite of our prayers. Was it a waste? No! He is with Jesus right now. His short life touched others in powerful ways. He was constantly sick, but always filled with joy. And I, I learned to have compassion and empathy because of what my wife and I went through. Sometimes, God can receive more glory from our sickness, than He can from our healing. Because I am His servant, I am able to say 'Thy will be done in my life Lord, not my own'. To me, this is true faith. I hope you don't feel that I am upset with you my friend. I am not. But, I do encourage everyone to think about the impact that words can have on others. Many people will never know what it is to live in a hospital for months on end with a sick child, but many will. And, it is an insult to them and their prayers to teach that God will ALWAYS heal. Further, it is not Scriptural either! ;-) Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

Please forgive me, it was not my intention to take the loss of your child and turn that into a debate on symantics. My son could have died and came close more than once in his life. I saw alot of sick kids who died way to young and marriages that ended because of the loss of a child. In a world where airplanes can be used as a weapon and death and destruction surrounds us it is hard to not feel saddened by it all. I truly believe that Jesus loves you and when he looked out from the cross that day He saw you and your family and took all that you suffered into Him that day. He did not die for nothing and as our Lord aand Savior He became a substitute for us because we could not be worthy without Him. | ||||||

Greetings Imf! Rest assured by friend, I did not take it in that way! :-) I just encourage everyone to think about the families who have lost children, or who are enduring ongoing illness, when we start to preach or teach these sorts of things. God has richly blessed us. I have four children now, and a granddaughter. :-) Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |
