1 | How was Jesus slain 'before' ? | 1 Pet 1:20 | CDBJ | 40497
Since the future is just as perspicuous to God as the past it is God's way, in words of accommodation, to let us know that he has everything all planed out and if people will just trust in his plan they will be winners right along with His Son. We are put in this position by faith in Jesus. John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Romans 8:17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. He says the same thing about those that believe in his Son, with ref. to a time before the world existed. Ephes. 1:4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: |

2 | How was Jesus slain 'before' ? | 1 Pet 1:20 | spiritofwisdom | 40472
I believe it is found in 1 Peter 1:19-20 where it speaks about the "Lamb that was slain before the foundation of the world". My question is concerning the use of the word 'before'. I fully understand that Jesus died for our sins, was crucified on a cross and is risen from the grave where He sits at the right hand of His Father and is awaiting orders to come and get His church to live with Him forever. I am just puzzled about the concept of Jesus being slain 'before the foundations of the world'. If I understand this right, I am hearing that He was already in the process of being slain before the world was ever formed. What exactly is meant here by this Scripture and what is it really saying?

Hi CDBJ, I hesitate to answer your post because I had to look up "perspicuous". I wanted to tell you that your choices of Scripture were excellent for the points that you made. Thank you. Can I give you some comparison phrases from my study of your references? 1 Peter 1:20, "For *He [Christ] was foreknown before the foundation of the world, but has appeared in these last times for the sake of you..." [Even though they did not honor Him as *God]. See Romans 1:21. Ephesians 1:4, "In love *He predestined us to adoption as sons..." Ephesians 1:11, "In *Him also we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to (His) purpose..." Ephesians 1:18, "...so that you may know what is the hope of *His calling, what are the riches of the glory of (His) inheritance in the saints..." Romans 8:16, "The Spirit *Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of (God)." See Romans 6:22, John 17:9, James 4:7 Romans 8:23, "And not only this, but also we ourselves, having the first fruits of the *Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our body." John 1:12, "But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of *God, even to those who believe on (His) name." Romans 8:28, "And we know that God causes all things to work together for good to those who love *God, TO THOSE WHO are called according to (His) purpose." John 1:12, "...to them He gave the right to become children of *God, even TO THOSE WHO believe in (His) name." I hope that you can see these comparisons and that this is worthwhile to you even as yours were to my mind. From the heart, Ray |

I have a Bible study to teach on Thursday and have been prepping for that so I haven't spent much time on the forum, keep digging into the Word that is good exercise. 2 Tim. 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. Hebrews 5:14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil. |
