Bible Question: I believe it is found in 1 Peter 1:19-20 where it speaks about the "Lamb that was slain before the foundation of the world". My question is concerning the use of the word 'before'. I fully understand that Jesus died for our sins, was crucified on a cross and is risen from the grave where He sits at the right hand of His Father and is awaiting orders to come and get His church to live with Him forever. I am just puzzled about the concept of Jesus being slain 'before the foundations of the world'. If I understand this right, I am hearing that He was already in the process of being slain before the world was ever formed. What exactly is meant here by this Scripture and what is it really saying? |
Bible Answer: Since the future is just as perspicuous to God as the past it is God's way, in words of accommodation, to let us know that he has everything all planed out and if people will just trust in his plan they will be winners right along with His Son. We are put in this position by faith in Jesus. John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: Romans 8:17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. He says the same thing about those that believe in his Son, with ref. to a time before the world existed. Ephes. 1:4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: |
