1 | A divorced pastor in ministry? | 1 Tim 3:2 | kalos | 23367
Tim: I'll be the first to admit that what I THINK and what I DO NOT THINK is a matter of no consequence. What matters is what the Bible says when taken at face value and when Scripture is compared with Scripture. The fact is divorce is NOT the unforgivable sin. Many churches have ruled that in their organization divorce prohibits one from serving as a pastor. But is this what the Bible really teaches? "Some believe that Paul here [in 1 Tim. 3:2] excludes divorced men from church leadership. That again ignores the fact that this qualification does not deal with marital status. Nor does the Bible prohibit all remarriage after divorce (Matt 5:31,32; 19:9; 1 Cor 7:15)" (John MacArthur). Grace to you, kalos |

2 | A divorced pastor in ministry? | 1 Tim 3:2 | EdB | 23404
Kalos I'm not trying to be rude here but read on what does MacArthur say further on in this dicussion? That while he (MacArthur) does not see verse 2 excluding a divorced man the other verse may. Also go back to the priest hood. One major thing that exempted a Levite from serving as a priest was divorce. I know we are not under the law but why do you think God made that stipulation? His sin could be atoned for by a blood offering so it wasn't sin. What could it be? Whatever it is God must have a reason. Then the question is, is that still valid today? I say yes I think it is. Again I'm talking a Christian that was married and divorce after salvation. I think for people that are married and divorce and then saved, they have become new creations, the old has passed away. So I'm only talking about Chrsitians that get divorced here. EdB |
