Scripture ... 1 Tim 3:2, Tit 1:4, 2 Pet 1:16-21 ... Raul, No divorced pastors (1 Tim 3:2, Tit 1:4) also has its "experts" ... and I also studied 2 Peter 1:16-21 in the context of verse 20. If we cannot interpet Scripture, then all you can do is read it, including the qualifications for a pastor. I'm done on this thread. S |

2 | A divorced pastor in ministry? | 1 Tim 3:2 | Tim Sheasby | 23322
Remember too that God himself divorced his wife Israel -- Jeremiah 3:8 And verse 1 of the same chapter indicates that once divorced the marriage cannot be reinstated (See also Deut 24:1 following). Divorce is a terrible thing but though there may be sin attached, sin repented of can and should be forgiven. For some reason divorce has become an unforgivable sin in the church. Jesus said we should forgive seventy times seven times Matt 18:22. |

3 | A divorced pastor in ministry? | 1 Tim 3:2 | EdB | 23335
Tim I don't think divorce should be the unforgivable sin. But I do think it exempts one from serving as a pastor. I read your other post on the subject and my heart goes out to you and what you went through. I agree that many times instead of becoming a weaker Christian we become stronger through the trials we endure. I have no doubt of your unwavering love for the Lord and your desire to serve Him. I just don't see your service to God via pastoring. Is that making you a second class citizen as it were? No, God doesn't call everyone to the pastorate and surely they aren't second class. I think honoring God’s prohibition against divorce and pastoring is showing an unselfish love. Too many say I love God but I have my rights. This is exactly what happens in many marriages, people love each other but want their rights. The commitment and love God is looking for is to forget self even unto death walking holy before the Lord. While I can hurt for you, and I can assure you God has laid this all down and your not a second class citizen, scripture says you are however exempted from duty as a pastor. There are literally thousands of other ways to serve God, many more important and farther reaching than a local pastor, why insist on this one way? Again my heart and my prayers go out to you my brother. EdB |
