1 | "Women being silent" | Gal 3:28 | fellowlaborer | 218359
As I read the dialogue regarding "Women being silent" I noticed something. The scriptures that were outlined pertained to women who had a husband; which would be the role of wife. The creation of the woman was always a part of God's plan. The order of creation was perfect for as man noticed the male and female animals; then God relayed this powerful and profound truth. When God created all things He said "It is good." Yet, for man to be alone God said that is not good. And, Adam was promoted :-). Please excuse me for jumping around... Now, the word "usurp" by definition means to take authority by force. (And, I have seen this happen too many times in the marriage union.) Now, I Tim 2 opens with admonishment for prayer and for "all in authority." And at the latter part of the chapter when the woman is mentioned the direction again went toward a marriage union. Also, women having positions of authority is not a A.D. occurence. We find that Deborah was a judge - in the book of Judges. History identifies notable queens, e.g. Queen Esther; as well as, notable women mentioned in the genealogy found in Matthew 1. Also, historians give the probable dates for the book of I Timothy as unknown. The probable date for Galatians 55 and 60 a.d. II Timothy probable dates between 65 and 67 and in this book the Apostle Paul acknowledges Timothy's grandmother and mother with credit for Timothy's faith -- maybe they did some teaching. Paul spent time and was taught by Aquilla and Priscilla. Which I will quote Gal 3:28 "There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus." Those who are led by the spirit are the sons of God. I don't know if I said everything that came to me or if you can follow me... I just trust that we will "...hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments; for this is the whole duty of man." And, I believe it is referring to all mankind. And the apostle Paul also says those who are unmarried is concerned about the things of the Lord 1 Cor 7:32-34. Let us be about our Father's business. |

Shalom laborer, Nice to meet you. I liked what you had to say about women keeping silent. Like someone here on SBF has said so aptly, some time ago - not everything written as a command in the bible is for us today. Otherwise, we would all be proud owners of Arks!! You can call me a female chauvinist if you wish, but I would like to point out a few things: 1st - Adam was formed from the dust of the earth OUTSIDE of the Garden. It is commonly agreed that as far as human perfection goes, Adam was perfect - so, Eve was Formed from something that was already perfect and INSIDE of the Garden. 2nd - If you check the Hebrew word that was poorly translated as "rib" you will find it was the same word used when speaking about the side of the Ark that Noah built. Woman was NOT fromed from some unnecessary, disposable part of Adam, she came from his side, without which he could not live. 3rd - Eve may have been deceived but Adam made a conscious decision to be disobedient... This is my story, and I'm sticking to it :o) Yedida Solomon |

Dear Yedida Why do you suppose Jesus did not choose any women to be in His inner core of Disciples, those chosen personally by Him, and thereby becoming the Apostles? Seeing that God, and Jesus are one in the same. In the Old Testament we see that God did not appoint any women to service in the Temple. And in the New Testament Jesus did not appoint any woman to be Apostles. Was that due to a cultural prejudice, or could it be understood that women are not to be in positions of authority over man. Now we know that when Paul said woman, there are different categories of women. 1 Virgin 2 Young women 3 Married Women 4 Older women 5 Widows What category was he speaking to? When it is all said and done, is there any (SCRIPTURE) that contradicts Paul's teaching? 1Ti 2:12 12 But I suffer not a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over the man, but to be in silence. God Bless YenIsaRap |

Who did Jesus chose to appear to when He arose from the dead? He first appeared to this person and told this person to go tell the disciples. What an honor. Holman Bible Dictionary Also from the old testament we see Huldah: HULDAH (huhl’ duh) Personal name meaning, “mole.” Prophetess, the wife of Shallum (2 Kings 22:14). She was consulted after Josiah the king of Judah saw a copy of the Book of the Law found as preparations were being made to restore the Temple. She prophesied judgment for the nation but a peaceful death for Josiah the king. See Josiah. 11 When the king heard the words of the book of the law, he tore his clothes. 12 Then he commanded Hilkiah the priest, Ahikam son of Shaphan, Achbor son of Micaiah, Shaphan the court secretary, and the king’s servant Asaiah: 13 “Go and inquire of the Lord for me, the people, and all Judah about the instruction in this book that has been found. For great is the Lord’s wrath that is kindled against us because our ancestors have not obeyed the words of this book in order to do everything written about us.”[6] 2 Ch 34:14–21 Huldah’s Prophecy of Judgment 2 Kings 22:11-14 So Hilkiah the priest, Ahikam, Achbor, Shaphan, and Asaiah went to the prophetess Huldah, wife of Shallum son of Tikvah, son of Harhas,[7] 2 Ch 34:22 reads Hasrah keeper of the wardrobe. She lived in Jerusalem in the Second District. They spoke with her. The Lord's best friends were Martha and Mary and their brother. I would call this an inner circle. Women have always been used by our Lord. It is only when we look to Him for guidance does He put those people in our paths to direct us to Him. If we put Him in a box we may miss out on all that He has for us. Many, many women serve as pastors who preach the true gospel of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. Many, many men as well as women are false prophets or pastors who preach a different gospel. I had rather hear a women preach the true gospel any day than a man or woman preach a false gospel. If you don't want to listen to a women you have a choice to go somewhere else. Why knock someone who will answer to God for their actions? Its between them and God. |

Question: What does the Bible say about women in ministry?" Answer: This is not an issue of chauvinism or discrimination. It is an issue of biblical interpretation. The Word of God proclaims, “A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent” (1 Timothy 2:11-12). In the church, God assigns different roles to men and women. This is a result of the way mankind was created and the way in which sin entered the world (2 Timothy 2:13-14). God, through the apostle Paul, restricts women from serving in roles of teaching and/or having spiritual authority over men. This precludes women from serving as pastors, which definitely includes preaching to, teaching, and having spiritual authority over men. There are “objections” to this view of women in ministry. A common one is, Paul restricts women from teaching because in the first century, women were typically uneducated. However, 1 Timothy 2:11-14 nowhere mentions educational status. If education were a qualification for ministry, the majority of Jesus' disciples would not have been qualified. A second common objection is that Paul only restricted the women of Ephesus from teaching. The city of Ephesus was known for its temple to Artemis, a Greek/Roman goddess. Women were the authority in the worship of Artemis. However, Paul dosn't mention Artemis worship as a reason for the restrictions. Yet another frequent objection to this interpretation of women in ministry is in relation to women who held positions of leadership in the Bible, specifically Miriam, Deborah, and Huldah in the Old Testament. Most significantly, though, the authority of women in the Old Testament is not relevant to the issue. The book of 1 Timothy and the other Pastoral Epistles present a new paradigm for the church—the body of Christ—and that paradigm involves the authority structure for the church, not for the nation of Israel or any other Old Testament entity. Similar arguments are made using Priscilla and Phoebe in the New Testament. In Acts 18, Priscilla and Aquila are presented as faithful ministers for Christ. Priscilla's is mentioned first, indicating that she was more “prominent” than her husband. However, Priscilla is nowhere described in a ministry activity that is in contradiction to 1 Timothy 2:11-14. Priscilla and Aquila brought Apollos into their home and they both discipled him, explaining the Word of God to him more accurately (Acts 18:26). Romans 16:1, even if Phoebe is considered a “deaconess” instead of a “servant,” that does not indicate that she was a teacher in the church. “Able to teach” is given as a qualification for elder, but not deacons (1 Timothy 3:1-13; Titus 1:6-9). Elders/bishops/deacons are described as the “husband of one wife,” “a 'man' whose children believe,” and “men' worthy of respect.” Clearly these qualifications refer to men. In addition, masculine pronouns are used exclusively to refer to elders/bishops/deacons. Many women excel in gifts of hospitality, mercy, teaching, and helps. Much of the ministry of the local church depends on women. Women in the church are not restricted from public praying or prophesying (1 Corinthians 11:5), only from having spiritual teaching authority over men. The Bible nowhere restricts women from exercising the gifts of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 12). Women, just as much as men, are called to minister to others, to demonstrate the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23), and to proclaim the gospel to the lost (Matthew 28:18-20; Acts 1:8; 1 Peter 3:15). God has ordained that only men are to serve in positions of spiritual teaching authority in the church. This is not because men are necessarily better teachers, or because women are inferior or less intelligent (which is not the case). It is simply the way God designed the church to function. Men are to set the example in spiritual leadership—in their lives and through their words. Women are to take a less authoritative role. Women are encouraged to teach other women (Titus 2:3-5). The Bible also does not restrict women from teaching children. The only activity women are restricted from is teaching men or having spiritual authority over them. This logically would preclude women from serving as pastors/preachers. This does not make women less important, by any means, but rather gives them a ministry focus more in agreement with God’s plan and His gifting of them. http://www.gotquestions.org/women-pastors.html |

Dear John, I have read gotquestions position on this before. However, thank you for your concern. I still believe women can preach if they are called. I stand by my post.

Sister Val, First of all sister, Val, I'd like to say it's good to see you, I've missed you latly, and also I've always really appreciated your sound and solid Scripturally backed posts. And I hope you would be the kind of Bible scholar you have so far shown yourself to be and take a closer look at what the Bible clearly teaches. Val, I pray that you will take the time to give a listen to the sermon at: http://www.cbmw.org/images/audio/da_carson/carson_flow_of_thought_1Timothy_2.mp3 It is the Bibles position, not the position of gotquestions.org. The Bible clearly says woman should not teach men. No one of the opposite position has been able to show any solid scriptural proof that Scripture says otherwise. Believe what you will, but the Bible says clearly that woman are not permitted to teach men. Sorry for my lack of Scripture at this time but I'd just be repeating what has already been said. John |

Dear John, thank you for your welcome. There is an ongoing debate in christendom on this subject. I understand your thoughts and appreciate that we can discuss this civilly. I respectfully disagree with your conclusions for the reasons I outlined in my post. We can agree to disagree and move on. It is clear that people disagree on many topics thus we have many denominations. It is not my wish to debate this topic. Thank you again for your friendship. You are a good brother in the Lord.
