1 | Difference backsliden or not saved? | 2 Cor 13:5 | Lightliving3 | 173329 | ||
What is the difference between backsliden and not really being saved. My husband asked Jesus into his heart and for a time he was a completely different person. I don't think he was acting or just trying on his own to be different, because the transformation was so dramatic. Now, he stll believes in God, but if I was a stranger looking at how he lived his life I would in no way think he was saved. Thanks |

'BACKSLIDING Term used by the prophets to describe Israel's faithlessness to God (Isaiah 57:17 RSV; Jeremiah 3:14,Jeremiah 3:22; Jeremiah 8:5; Jeremiah 31:22; Jeremiah 49:4; Hosea 11:7; Hosea 14:4). In these passages it is clear that Israel had broken faith with God by serving other gods and by living immoral lives. See "Apostasy".' (Holman Bible Dictionary, published by Broadman and Holman, 1991) Notice that "backsliding" describes ISRAEL'S faithlessness to God. The "church" is nowhere mentioned in the above definition, just as the word "backsliding" is not in the New Testament. |
