Searcher, thank you for asking, things are very difficult right now as we try to sort through all the stuff "death" leaves in its wake. Many unanswered questions, anger, regrets, sadness, uncertainty . . . my faith wavers, to be sure, but I haved learned that it is the faithfulness of God that sustains. In my church experience, the local church has sent out missionaries and supported them from the general fund as well as from individuals in the congregation. Is it wrong to assume that those who receive the benefit of this ministry or mission should not join in that support at some point also? Was Paul being, as Steve suggests, sarcastic here? Is sarcasm ever edifying? Did Jesus use sarcasm - if so, to what purpose? I'm still not quite sure what Paul was asking forgiveness for here. mommapbs |

We need to be careful when we say something or someone is sarcastic (or not). I am not sure if he is in this passage. When my dad was a missionary, he and the local church wanted to call a national to pastor the church ... it is a gradual process. My parents were provide things - but it was not a demand. |
