Hi JRM, I appreciate your concern for Victor, we should all be very careful for our brothers. I just re-read Doc's post that started this thread, and I do have a couple of thought regarding it. One is that I wonder if perhaps Doc may have misinterpreted the Pope's remarks. "The true star which points out the way to us: Jesus Christ" could be understood as "Jesus shows us the way", or as "Jesus shows the way leads to us", and by what else Doc said, I suspect he thought the latter. If the Pope meant the former, this could, and I do not say would, change Doc's comments. If the latter is correct, the Pope is singling out his congregation as the only church, and I don't think that is right. But that aside, I do not believe it to be wrong to challange anyone to consider the Biblical basis of their chosen fellowship. I have nothing against any person who believes in Christ, under any banner, but I have also seen unbiblical teaching with the Catholic church. I have known as many apostate "Catholics" as "Baptists" (sorry Hank!), as "Apostolics" (Sorry Mary!), as Non-Dems (that's me). I am talking about the ones I know. It can be disturbing when someone challanges and says to me "Be careful, make sure you're not going to the Counterfeit Church!", but if you are, you need to know. If you are not, it will pass the test. And truth be told, I might agree (I really don't actually know) that the greatest number of proffessing(sp.) Christians are Catholics, but I also believe that the vast majority of proffessing Christians aren't Christians at all. And that is even more disturbing. But let's say that Doc was way off base (I don't think he was, myself), how should we approach him? Gal 6:1 "Brethren, even if anyone is caught in any trespass, you who are spiritual, restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness; each one looking to yourself, so that you too will not be tempted." I hope this helps. Love in Christ, Mark |
