NASB | 2 Corinthians 11:4 For if one comes and preaches another Jesus whom we have not preached, or you receive a different spirit which you have not received, or a different gospel which you have not accepted, you bear this beautifully. |
AMPLIFIED 2015 | 2 Corinthians 11:4 For [you seem willing to allow it] if one comes and preaches another Jesus whom we have not preached, or if you receive a different spirit from the one you received, or a different gospel from the one you accepted. You tolerate all this beautifully [welcoming the deception]. |
Subject: New Ideas? |
Bible Note: Hi Victor, The way you describe how you suppose I/we have been taught sounds more like brainwashing to me. Could you maybe give me/us a little credit for actually taking an active role to search out the meaning of the Scriptures? I'd like to suggest a different reason for the many divisions between Christians. Granted, the arguments and schism cite doctrine, or style, but this is what Jesus said: Joh 17:20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; 21 That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me. 22 And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one:" The glory that the Father gave to Jesus, Jesus gives to us, that we may be one, as the Father and the Son are One. Joh 17:1 "These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee:" Jesus said "the hour is come; glorify thy Son". It was the hour His whole life was centered around, it was His time to lay down His life. It is when we can lay down our lives that we can share the life, and the glory, of the Son. This is what will unite us. Now, as one who has been painted with your broad brush, I ask you: Would you back up your assertions with scripture? This is what the Bible says about divisions in the church, as we would say "denomonations": 1 Cor 3:3 For ye are yet carnal: for whereas there is among you envying, and strife, and divisions, are ye not carnal, and walk as men? 4 For while one saith, I am of Paul; and another, I am of Apollos; are ye not carnal? I Cor 11 tells us the same thing. There are divisions, and heresies (false doctrine), because when they come together, each is just trying to feed their own flesh. Victor, I am here to both learn and teach. I have explored a number of passages and doctrines with my brothers and sisters on this forum, and have grown appreciably. Sometimes my statements have been challenged, and I discover an error, and learn. Sometimes I challenge other's statements, and discover an error, and grow. Sometimes we just discover together, and watch the wonder unfold. Sometimes I just watch other people's threads develope, and learn, and grow. If you doubt this, then take the time to peruse the archives, and get to know us a little better. Now I ask you: Is the truth broad or narrow? Only one way is right. Broad is the way to destruction. I hope to get narrower each day, as I learn the word more fully. Can you contribute to our sharing and learning in the Word? Or would you rather just make groundless blanket statements defining people that you don't know, and write us off as some "theological backwater", stagnating in our "close-mindednes". We would love to include you in our quest for understanding. Present sound Biblical exegesis. Without that I would be foolish to discard what I have learned so far. If you merely wish to criticize, well, frankly, I have heard enough to last a lifetime. Love in Christ, Mark |
