1 | Beware "Another" | 2 Cor 11:4 | Victor529 | 156376
Hank, It is quite clear that most of the veteran posters here are associated with a narrow denominational spectrum of Fundamentalists. I am sure I can make good use of the NASB in my personal studies. However, you are correct I have no place here among a group of pontificating Baptists who haven't let a new idea enter their heads for 20 years. |

2 | New Ideas? | 2 Cor 11:4 | lionheart | 156408
Victor, Tell me something, what is your definition of new ideas? First of all, Gods Word is narrow in it's focus it says what it means and means what it says. We mold our theology around Gods Word that means we conform our believing to to His Word not the other way around. 1 Peter 1:20,21 2 Timothy 2:15. These are foundational scriptures for all who handle the Word of God,So when you say narrow focus, you betcha. In Christ, lionheart |

3 | New Ideas? | 2 Cor 11:4 | Victor529 | 156469
There are many different interpretations of the Bible among well meaning Christians. That is the primary reasons why there are so many different denominations: doctrine. What I mean by adverse to "new ideas" is when a man is inducted into a certain denomination he is not capable of ever adjusting his theological outlook. A challenge to his biblical interpretations is perceived as an attack on the views of the biblical authors and God. What a man hears first in his own denomination should not necessarily be his fixed theology for life, nor is it guaranteed to be correct. When I was at Bible College my denomination held to believers baptism, i.e infant baptism was seen as unbiblical. Fair enough. After studying at college I was able to fully articulate the case for both sides, and to know the strengths and weaknesses of each side's argument. I am particularly frustrated that 'certain people' are so closed-minded, only their doctrine is "sound", other views are wrong. No argument, no biblical texts will sway them. They heard it right first time in their first denomination. You write: 'We mold our theology around Gods Word that means we conform our believing to to His Word...' but do you? If I argued for baptismal regeneration and cite Acts 2:38 as teaching 'our sins are washed away in the baptismal tank' watch how scripture is made to conform to the pre-existing theology of my antagonist. The best case in the world can be made and yet no one ever seems capable of adjusting their positions an iota. Now, I appreciate that the NASB is a Bible produced by conservative evangelicals for a specific readership and most people here would be within a fairly small segment of the theological spectrum. However, I am not seeing any of the veterans here giving an inch, or learning anything new. |
