1 | What do you like about the ... church? | 1 Cor 3:22 | Aixen7z4 | 95694
It will be difficult for you to participate in this discussion if you are predisposed to be critical. It is easier for many people to find the faults in others. However, we may find that there is some good in every corner of the church. If f we criticise every system that we see, then the sum of it all may be that we nullify ourselves. If we look for the good everywhere and seek to incrporate it in our own lives, then we may maximize the chances of improving ourselves. A wise man has said, "Don't look for the flaws as you go through life, and even when you find them, it is often kind to be somewhat blind, and to look for the virtues behind them". I wonder if he got the idea from James who said, (Jas 4:11) "Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of his brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judge the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge". I cannot recall a scripture which says we should look for the good in others. But if one carries and reads and tries to practice the word of God, there must be something that they do right. No comment need be taken to indicate that one approves of a denomination as a whole. On the other hand, no one should be offended by the question or take it to suggest that there is very little right with that system. But I would like to see what we appreciate about each other. So let's say this thread is all about positive things. whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. What do you think is good and praiseworthy in say, the Roman Catholic Church? |

What do you think is good and praiseworthy in say, the Roman Catholic Church? I work in a Catholic Hospital, and what I notice about the church is their dedication to Christ. Their strive to follow the teachings of loving and honoring one another. The Nuns go to the patient’s rooms and share Christ with them or share the patient’s burdens. They do what they can for the patients. They feed the hungry; clothe the clothless; and shelter the homeless. There’s morning and evening prayer everyday. And of all the surrounding hospitals within this city. I’ve noticed that the Catholic Hospitals are the only ones who haven’t laid employees off. James 1:21 says, “Be ye doers of the word and not hearers only….” Our Lord and Savior had much to say about how we are to treat one another. Matt 7:12 says, “In everything, therefore, treat people the same way you want them to treat you….” NASB. The CurtMan |

3 | Thank the Catholics for "The Passion"? | 1 Cor 3:22 | Aixen7z4 | 114577
Should we thank the Catholic church nor for "The Passion of the Christ"? Somehow, it seems now that it had to happen. That is the way that Catholics do things. This is not meant to be an offensive statement but I think that only a Catholic could have made that movie. I do not kow for sure what I am saying here. My parents were Catholic and I attended a Catholic school. All I will say is that, as a child, I found the pictures on the wall and the "Stations of the Cross" really frightening. I stayed away from them. Now I find I have not seen the movie. If I do see it the reason would be that it enables me to talk about it. It is my impression that only Catholics have been referring to the sufferings of Christ as a "Passion". With that and the movie itself, are they not making a unique contribution to Christianity? |

Stereotyping is dangerous ... While Mel Gibson is a Roman Catholic and it has influenced his life and thinking ... if I were smart enough, I would do something like it, too. My desire is to write about His last 2 days ... and His resurrection ... from the view of the Roman soldier who nailed His right hand to the cross, who is a follower of the Lamb ... and now other soldiers at the key scenes ... plus, the Garden with Him alone. |

Please read the first post in this thread. The purpose is not stereotyping, or anything else that's negative. The idea is to find something praiseworthy, wherever it exists in the church.
