1 | Thank the Catholics for "The Passion"? | 1 Cor 3:22 | Aixen7z4 | 114577 | ||
Should we thank the Catholic church nor for "The Passion of the Christ"? Somehow, it seems now that it had to happen. That is the way that Catholics do things. This is not meant to be an offensive statement but I think that only a Catholic could have made that movie. I do not kow for sure what I am saying here. My parents were Catholic and I attended a Catholic school. All I will say is that, as a child, I found the pictures on the wall and the "Stations of the Cross" really frightening. I stayed away from them. Now I find I have not seen the movie. If I do see it the reason would be that it enables me to talk about it. It is my impression that only Catholics have been referring to the sufferings of Christ as a "Passion". With that and the movie itself, are they not making a unique contribution to Christianity? |

Did the movie got million dollars? they created that movie because of business? they want money that all, if they made that movie and show it to the world for free maybe I should thank them. Almost all Christian knew the passion of Christ the only reason why only the catholic really observed it because it is the time that they can parade images based on thier traditions and practices. Christ gave us commandments to do if we really love Him, I am sure it is not making movies parading images while others reciting the prayers. These commandments goes: Joh 14:15 ¶ If ye love me, keep my commandments. Joh 13:34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. Joh 13:35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another. Those are some of His commandments, did he said we have to go back to His suffering, passion every year No! it is finish. He done everything to us, what we should do? making movies and gain dollars out of it? NO! we should love one another. Here in the Philippines, too many person nailed themselves to the cross, because they think that because of that they done partly what suffering of Christ on the cross. Is that biblical? NO! it is Christ worthy of doing that because He is the messaiah. God bless, |

My Dear Friend: I understand your concern. There is money and merchandizing involved. Not only is the movie making a profit, but there are also the spin-offs. It seems that it had to happen. The Passion lapel pin -- 2.49. The Passion pocket coin -- 2.99. Crown of Thorns -- 44.95. His passion Tee (?) -- 14.97. A statue of the Christ under the cross -- 179.99 (Can't post dollar signs?) I confess I had difficulty in writing the last item. But they are here, in the catalogue I received today. Now it seems we must think of this. Is someone into profiteering on the sufferings of Christ? Is that really what the movie and the interest are all about? It seems that there are some who need these items as objects of devotion, and some are willing to sell them. This is fantastic. Somehow, it makes my heart sick. We had Nehushtan once (2 Kings 18:4) and I’m afraid it is still with us. It may be that we need a Hezekiah to arise again. But this encourages me to listen to some of our brethren who have advised this, to stay away from that movie. However, we can be grateful to those who have reawakened the subject and caused us to talk about it again. Let’s say that we can disregard the motives and look for the good in this (Philippians 1:18). The Gospel is being preached and we can rejoice in that. |
