1 | Women Preachers? Yes or No? | 1 Cor 1:1 | journey_me | 93518
The other day a lady wrote a question regarding the role of women in church. On tv the news compared the election of an openly-gay bishop to a similar scandal involving the appointment of the first female bishop. I was wondering why would a woamn bishop bring about a threat of separation between the episcopalan and anglican church. Then I cam accross 1 Cor 14:34-35 [34]Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience as also saith the law [35] And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is a shame for women to speak in the church. Saith what law? Is this strictly for those who are under the law? Are women under Grace permitted to speak in church? Can somone explain this to me? Are women allowed to be leaders in church or not? The scriptures clearly say no. Why are women required to be silent and seek knowledge from their husbands? I am not trying to be sexist, I am trying to understand how we can justify having women preachers, bishops, and etc if it is against the scriptures. |

2 | Women Preachers? Yes or No? | 1 Cor 1:1 | gracefull | 93519
Hello Journey_Me You quoted... Look at 1 Corinthians 11:5 as a comparison. Paul states that women should not prophesy with their head uncovered, not that they should not prophesy UNLESS, as opposed to not prophesy at all. Where is prophesying done? In meetings... While this is not conclusive, it at least points out that women do have callings that allow them to speak in public meetings. Also, one cant' compare this to God calling homosexuality an abomination...While meny may respond very antagonistically to women in ministry due to doctrine, scripturally there is no comparison to ordaining someone practicing open sin and calling it good. God bless God bless |

Hey glory2, I'm not saying your wrong my friend, but quoting from Galatians 3:28 doesn't come close to making the argument. Be careful not to jerk a portion of a verse out and attempt to qualify an entire belief on it. Go back and read the verse within the context of the verses before and after it. What is the focus of the passage? Is it the roles of individuals? Or is it the work of faith? If Galatians 3:28 is teaching that there are no distinctions to be made between the roles and functions of males and females what would be the consequences of that? I can think of one right off. A strong argument to justify homosexuality. Then of course we would have to throw out all of what the NT teaches about how a man is to love his wife and how a wife is to be subject to her husband. We should never attempt to use Scripture to support our beliefs. Better, we should ensure that it is Scripture that establishes what we believe. Christ's love, Jeff |
