1 | Why is death God's enemy? | 1 Cor 15:25 | DocTrinsograce | 207522
Yes, in theology it is an area of study called theodicy. Here is how the old Baptist divines stated it: "God hath decreed in Himself, from all eternity, by the most wise and holy counsel of His own will, freely and unchangeably, all things, whatsoever comes to pass; yet so as thereby is God neither the author of sin nor hath fellowship with any therein; nor is violence offered to the will of the creature, nor yet is the liberty or contingency of second causes taken away, but rather established; in which appears His wisdom in disposing all things, and power and faithfulness in accomplishing his decree. (Isaiah 46:10; Ephesians 1:11; Hebrews 6:17; Romans 9:15, 18; James 1:13; 1 John 1:5; Acts 4:27, 28; John 19:11; Numbers 23:19; Ephesians 1:3-5)" --London Baptist Confession of Faith 1689 (chapter 3, paragraph 1) The phrase "second causes" relates to ideas from the philosophical area of inquiry called causality. Theodicy is pretty heady stuff, but there's an article by Dr. W. Gary Crampton that's fairly easy to read: http://gospelpedlar.com/articles/God/god_evil.html In Him, Doc |

Doc Well thank you very much for that! I agree with everything I read in the this essay exept I had one itsy bitsy problem with the concept of resolving the whole she-bang with Supralapsarianism. The reason is only one, the last part of that view, not in the article, but in the view itself, states that the decree to provide salvation was only for the elect. Yet, the Bible gives us scriptures stating that Christ's death was for the whole world and so on. I do agree with the concepts of irresistible grace and with God's sovereign election of men to be saved. I personally have just never been able to reconcile those scriptures which state that to many is given the offer of salvation but few are called, with that, Jesus died for the whole world. I believe both are true, but that we can't understand the theology of how God does that, as they are not contradictory, but both are true. Thanks again for a wonderful link. 1 John 2:2 and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world. 3 | Why is death God's enemy? | 1 Cor 15:25 | son of god | 207773
I dont feel that the bible ever contridicts itself, thats why it is called a two edged sword because it discerns the thoughts and intents of the heart. it only appears as a contridiction when we bring our own agenda to it and take it out of context. in Romans 8:29 Paul says For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his son, that he might be the firstborn of many brothern. This is justified by Christ statement in Matt.25:32 And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepard divideth his sheep from the goats: That is also the sentiment of Matt.13:30 Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn. If people feel they may loose thier salvation, that means they probably do not have any to loose. For without faith it is imposible to please God Hebrews 11:6. |
