1 | Do holy people have to speak in tongues? | 1 Cor 12:30 | ezekiel | 28687 | ||
Light Angle: I have experenced the Baptism of the Holy Ghost and Spoke in other tongues as the Spirit gave the utterance,It is truly Joy Unspeakable and Full of Glory and it is a Free gift from God. Why would we not want to recieve it when the Holy Gives you power to witness change your life style guide you in your life and on and on i could go. But see if the Following helps you any study these pages and Scriptures and decide for yourself about recieving the Spirit of truth and grace and Joy that surpasses all understanding. Spirit. The Spirit is our rest, guide to all truth, adopter, intercessor, sanctifier, seal, and the earnest of our inheri-tance (Isaiah 28:11-12; John 16:13; Romans 8:15, 26; Ephesians 1:13-14; I Peter 1:2). Someone can receive the Spirit by repenting, having faith in God, and asking God for His gift. We should always expect speaking in tongues when someone receives the Holy Spirit. Tongues do not save in any sense, but the Spirit baptism produces tongues as the initial sign. Once a person receives the Spirit, he has power to overcome sin and live a holy life (Acts 1:8; Romans 8:4, 13). If we let Him continually fill (control and guide) us, we will bear the fruit of the Spirit and become Christ-like (Galatians 5:22-23). What is the status of a person who repents and is bap-tized, thereby receiving remission of sins, but does not receive the Holy Spirit? He cannot be condemned for sins that are remitted, yet he cannot enter the kingdom of God without the birth of the Spirit and the holiness imparted by the Holy Spirit. Some suppose he will inherit the new earth, although the Bible does not explicitly say so. Jesus has commanded him to be baptized with the Spirit, and for Jesus to be complete Lord of his life he must obey (Luke 24:49; John 20:22; Acts 1:4-5). |

Ezekiel, I could infer from your statement: "Why would we not want to recieve it when the Holy Gives you power to witness change your life style guide you in your life and on and on i could go" that if I do not speak in tongues that the Holy Spirit will not guide me, empower me to witness, nor change my lifestyle. Surely you are not saying this? As to the question why would I not want to receive the gift of speaking in tongues, the main reason I might not want to receive that particular gift is if it is not the gift that the Holy Spirit is trying to give me, 1 Cor. 12:4-11. Not everybody is intended to speak in tongues. The Bible is clear about that. If I tried to get a gift or immulate a gift God did not intend for me, would I not be going against God's will for me? later...wdc |

"But Moses said to him, "Are you jealous for my sake? Would that all the LORD'S people were prophets, that the LORD would put His Spirit upon them!" --Numbers 11:29 What is Moses saying here? Is he saying that all those whom God's Spirit rests will become prophets? The context would seem to indicate nothing of the sort. If you don't mind, start with Numbers 11:25 and relate to us verse by verse that Moses is saying that all who will be indwelt with the Holy Spirit after Pentecost will be prophets. Then tell me why Paul is wrong in 1 Corinthians 12:28-30 and that you are right. Then cite passages which clearly state that God will give everyone what they desire, no matter how corrupt the motives are or self-centered the asking is or how much they want to control the operation of the sovereign Spirit of God, the third person of the Trinity, very God of very God. Radical Pentecostals/charismatics think themselves the kings over the King of Kings. God is the Lord of all, not some genie to grant us whatever we desire. Go read Philippians 1:29 and 2 Timothy 3:14 and see what God promises those who follow him. Of course, this is the desire of the heart which follows Christ (Philippians 3:10). --Joe! |

Brother Joe, I think the first question I should ask is, what is a prophet? What does it mean, to prophesy? The Spirit of God rests upon his people for a purpose. Luke 11:13 we can even ask for the Holy Spirit. Now, Paul says, covet the greater gifts! I am no theologian, I believe what I read and trust the Holy Spirit to help me understand [Jn 14:26] and praise God if He chooses to use a man to help me understand. But, I believe first. Mat 7:7 and many many other verses tell me that if I ask I will receive. However James tells me why I do not receive, actually James is great for this subject. If I am at Gal. 2:20 and therefore 1 Cor 2:16, then I should have no worries here! I trust that all in this service are Christians after Christ, however, thanks for pointing out that some may not have godly motives yet, I believe the best for the one that asked the question, I believe she or he has no ill intentions. Joe, love covers a multitude of sins, in LOVE correct others. God is LOVE 1 Jn 4:8. I Cor 13:13. God's people everywhere have their faults, the apostles did, maybe you don't, and that is great. Now, be as Christ and love the unlovable. We are body of christ, even those you call radicals. God knew exactly what He was getting into when He called us, He will lead us to Glory!! Amen? I love you Brother, because I love Christ. The Good Lord Bless you. |

Tuli For clarification, the definition of prophecy (prophesy) takes on two distinct meanings, yet they overlap with purpose: the first referring to the Old Testament prophets (prophecy): · The inspired declaration of divine will and purpose. · As the term is used in mystical theology, it applies both to the prophecies of canonical Scripture and to private prophecies. Understood in its strict sense, it means the foreknowledge of future events, though it may sometimes apply to past events of which there no memory, and to present hidden things which cannot be known by the natural light of reason. · Correct/guide the path of the church and her people The second definition (prophesy), which I will refer to as New Testament prophets: · (Prophesy) To give instruction in religious matters, preach · (Preach) To urge acceptance or abandonment of an idea or course of action. · (Edify) To instruct and improve especially in moral and religious knowledge · (Evangelize) To preach the gospel to and/or to convert to Christianity · Correct/guide the path of the church and her people With that, the Prophets of the Old Testament received Divine Inspiration (knowledge and understanding) directly from God, with the purpose of keeping the people and the church on the correct path toward God. Prophets of the New Testament, serve the same purpose. However the source of our knowledge is from the teachings of Jesus and, our understanding of the teachings of Jesus, is clarified and enhanced with guidance from both, the Holy Spirit and the Church. In Paul’s letters to the Corinthians and Timothy (1 Corinthians 14, 1 Timothy), he spoke of the gift of prophesy whose purpose was to build up the church. Expanding on this, our role, as a prophet of the New Testament has multiple responsibilities, which include: evangelize, preach, edify, moralize, guide, instruct and educate other members of our community. This is conveyed or passed along by our words, as well as by our actions. The focal point of our efforts, as a prophet, is to assist our fellow man towards a stronger, more positive, direct and personal relationship with God through Jesus. And, in order to aid in the first, help effect a fuller understanding as to the true meaning, purpose and ways of the church – as an instrument created by Jesus, with the purpose of guiding man to Jesus.
