2 | Am I ignorant | 1 Cor 12:1 | Val | 212123 | ||
Greetings Newwine, I am sorry if I have offended you. I simply don't like to argue. What I believe is that each of us has to have a teachable spirit. Sometimes we get so intend on proving our opinions right that the intend becomes proving our opinions right rather than actually coming to the word of God with a teachable spirit and being willing to see things from a different perspective but finally to observe the verses in the context of the surrounding verses, chapters, book and then the rest of the bible. There are 66 books of the bible. I have not studied all 66. I have studied some of them. The bible fits together and does not contradict itself. Cross references explain a passage of scripture. Bible dictionaries explain the meaning of words. There are in house debates in christendom on some difficult controversial passages. There is a history of the christian church. There is a consensus among conservative christian scholars as to the meaning of the passages in the bible. The topic you want to discuss is not a new one. In fact Martin Luther began what is called the Reformation to refute the Roman Catholic Church on its deviation from scripture. I take all this into account when discussing a topic. I am what is called a protestant. I can show you from the bible why I believe the specific gift of Apostle in the likes of the original twelve Apostles and Paul closed with them. Any one who is a christian is an ambassador for Christ, this is a general term. We are not all Apostles. I do not judge your motive for wanting to discuss this term. I am put off by your seemingly inability to consider others viewpoints so I don't want to get into a discussion with you because I feel personally we would be speaking past one another not really listening just trying to prove our points. That usually leads to personal attacks which I believe is sin. If you would go back and look at how each of the Apostles were called directly by Christ you will see their specific calling. An Apostle in this meaning of the word is someone who was a first hand observer of Christ's ministry and was called directly by Him. Paul met Christ on the Damascus road. He saw Him and was called by Him to be an Apostle to the Gentiles. I know we put men on pedestals even in our protestant churches. I have high respect for them but they are just men. My God says I can come directly to Him and this is what He prefers. Merry Christmas - Val |
