Hello Steve, I was making the point that from scripture the last Apostle was Paul. Paul entrusted the gospel to Timothy when He died. In studying Timothy we are told that he was a pastor of a church. He was not called an Apostle of the like of Paul and the original twelve Apostles. I was agreeing with you on this point. The results of the teaching of Christ through the Apostles are still in effect today -I agree. I believe a prophet in todays world is someone who explains the written word in a way others can understand it. I don't think they say things that are not in the bible. I do think God raises up people to do this. I have not done a word study on prophet so thats the extend of my knowledge from what I have studied so far. I am studying the book of Hebrews now. Christ is the fulfillment of the old testament prophecies as He is the Messiah. He is better than the old testament sacrifices. He is the substance. He is better than the priests as He is a priest from Heaven. He tells us to come boldly and directly to Him through His blood and make our requests to Him. Notice in Israel they had to go through the priests and prophet. What changed? Anyone who wanted to believe in Jehovah God became a proselyte under that system. Under the New Covenant, the better covenant Christ cleanses our conscience and takes away our sins. This could never be done under the old covenant. Otherwise there would have been no need for another, better covenant. Now believers everywhere can go directly to the Father through the Son to the throne of grace. We do not have to go through priests and prophets. This is what I have learned from the book of Hebrews, a book which explains the change from the old covenant to the new covenant, the previous priests and our better priest Christ, and the animal sacrifices which could never take away sin to the one perfect sacrifice Christ who cleanses our conscience and takes away our sin through belief in His name. I agree with you and was adding to the conversation,i.e., bible study. Merry Christmas - Val | ||||||
