1 | That didn't really answer my question. | Rom 9:23 | Whitewave | 86379
I have no idea what an "apodosis clause" is. If I begin that sentence with "But if...", instead of "What if...", it still retains it's hypothetical quality in the english. It doesn't close the question. The only problem is that it makes the grammar screwy in the english. But that's fixable by saying, "But what if...". But none of this speaks to my question. The question is open in every english translation of the Bible that I've seen. "And He did so" closes the quesion. I have not seen any comprehensible reason to close that question. Give me another example out of the Bible of a question that left a piece out so that we had to stick the answer in ourselves. Ourselves being the translators, not the readers. Seriously, doctrine is at stake. All of the debates about whether the Bible is full of mistakes are silly because the manuscript inconsistencies never truly interfere with actual doctrine. I'm not convinced. If I'm just too uneducated to tell that you really did prove the thing to be correct, then the problem still exists. Few are educated enough to know why all the other Bibles say one thing and this one says something else. Whitewave |

2 | That didn't really answer my question. | Rom 9:23 | Hank | 86381
Whitewave: Some two years ago I had a question concerning what I considered a quirky NASB rendition of Ecclesiastes 12:13, so I sent an e-mail about it to Lockman.org. They answered my e-mail with a rather long and detailed explanation. I appreciated their kind response, although I still consider the passage quirky. You might want to query them regarding the passage in Romans 9:22-24. If you do, and get an answer, please post to this thread what you found out. --Hank
3 | That didn't really answer my question. | Rom 9:23 | Radioman2 | 86386
Hank: Are you suggesting that if we have a question about why a certain version translates a passage the way it does, we should contact the publisher, rather than take an opinion poll on the forum? What an odd notion! :-) Radioman2 |

4 | That didn't really answer my question. | Rom 9:23 | Whitewave | 86412
Hi, Radioman. Yeah, I caught that sarcasm there. I started out trying to find a way to contact the Pub. on this, but this is all I found. You or Hank could help me out by showing me where the link is in this maze to email the Pub. I will do that. I honestly am not one to fall for the "opinion poll" idea, I'm just looking for anyone out here who maybe is part of this translating team, who does answer questions. It would be sad if they didn't monitor what was going on out here at all, don't ya think? Whitewave |

5 | That didn't really answer my question. | Rom 9:23 | Radioman2 | 86413
Whitewave: Please accept my sincere apologies for the sarcasm. I honestly was not directing it toward you, although I can see where it would appear that I was. (Search the archives for examples of questions that, over a period of 2 1/2 years, could drive a person to frustration. I do not include your question in that category.) I am truly sorry for replying the way I did. To contact the Lockman Foundation, sponsors of the NASB translation project, go to: (www.gospelcom.net/lockman/). I agree with you: it is sad, but true, that no one from the translating team monitors what is going on here at the forum. Sometimes I don't even know why I monitor it. :-) Grace and peace, Radioman2 |

6 | That didn't really answer my question. | Rom 9:23 | Whitewave | 86654
Dude! I'm just elbowing you. I'm not offended. I got your elbow in my ribs and I'm just returning the gesture. It's okay! I'm used to talking to young people out here, so I'm good at cyber-wrestling. Thanks for the link, but I was there, and I didn't see a "Contact the translators" type of link. What should I look for? Whitewave |
