In Romans 1:16 Paul writes "For I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Christ: for it is the POWER of GOD unto SALVATION to everyone that believeth;" In Philippians 1:12-14 you will find that the Philippians were distressed that his imprisonment had ended the preaching of the gospel. However, Paul makes it clear that the gospel has instead been extended by his imprisonment. Firstly, he is able to witness to the Praetorian guard of Caesar's Palace. These soldier were the elite of Rome and he was chained to a fresh one each day (see Acts 28:16) which gave him an excellent opportunity to witness for Christ. Secondly, many believers who felt inadequate when Paul was out witnessing, now felt free to speak the Word (verse 14) now that Paul was imprisoned. Today there are millions who need to hear the Gospel and I believe that tools like radio, the internet and, maybe the telly, is one way of reaching these millions especially in Africa, China, India for a start - Ken John, |
