With all due respect, that does not address any of the issues that I enquired about. Are you saying that the couple in question can be baptized with the full knowledge of the church knowing of their situation? Wouldn't this be condoning the act of living together whilst unmarried? thus saying yes come on in we will baptize you regardless of you living situation, It is interesting to talk to people of different ages as to their response to this question, for instance the majority of people I've spoken to, born pre 60s (includes me) are of the mind that this issue needs addressing before they are baptized, and the people born after that time are more reluctant to want to do anything about it. The act of living together isn't actually the issue is it? it's the fact that this couple and many many others don't think that there is anything wrong with it, even when it has been pointed out to them scriptually that in my view is the real issue here. As the person baptizing them I have a huge problem with this and I would really appreciate some other views on the matter. By the way you gave me Exodus 1 on... as a reference I think I must be missing something? |

God's day to you, ceebee7, Excllent question. We are to examine ourseleves before we take the Lord's Supper (1 Cor 11:28) ... read the context. But, when we get baptized there isn't any qualification. It looks like one was baptized right waay (3 days for Paul) after thy were saved (Acts 2:41, 8:36, 9:18, 10:47, 16:15, 16:33, 19:5) ... wile taking the Lord's Supper was done after. Today many, if not most, reverse this. Baptism is delayed. So should we ask questions about them before we baptize them, or even allow them to be members of the church. We do ask memebers if there is some reason a person should not become a member - we vote. Plus there is baptism classes ... but I don't know if there is a life check. I would think we need to have a life that is a positive example before we do anything. We need to work out our salvation (Phi 2:12) ... which is like a person who after he gets a heart transplant (a free heart from someone who had to die) needs to excerise his new heart, to prove he has one ... and to be healthier.
