1 | To be saved must we be baptised? | Acts 2:38 | disciplerami | 78396 | ||
Hi Steve, Your answer falls a little short. What would they 'believe' if Paul and Silas didn't then "speak the word of the Lord to him together with all who were in his house"? What they believed was the Gospel. Part of preaching Jesus is preaching Baptism (Acts 8:35,36). That is why they did not wait three months to go get baptized, they immediately went the very same hour (past midnight, 16:25). Q: Was the jailer saved when he believed? A: Yes. Q: When he believed what? A: What Peter preached to him and the rest. Q: When was he saved? A: When he obeyed in baptism. Good day to you, Disciplerami |

Hello Disciplerami Your definition of the gospel is incorrect. The correct one is found here: 1 Cor. 15:3-4 (ESV) For I delivered to you as of first importance what I also received: that Christ died for our sins in accordance with the Scriptures, [4] that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures, No baptism is mentioned. Steve, Steve, Steve, I know what the Gospel is, but thanks for pointing it out again. Did you miss the part where Philip preached Jesus from Isaiah? The next words, say, that they were passing water and the Eunuch asked to be baptized! It might be my very carnal and natural mind, but this text seems to imply that Philip preached baptism to the Eunuch WHEN he preached Jesus to him. Steve, does it escape your notice that 1 Cor 15:3,4 doesn't mention the need for faith? Humm? Attention all posters: Steve's logic seems to be imply that faith and baptism are not necessary for salvation. Wow, Steve! This is an amazing thing you've come up with. The question was about salvation and baptism. And the only verse in the entire Bible that you recognize is 1 Cor. 15:3,4. Good day. Disciplerami |

Hello Disciplerami So I misunderstood what you said. It seemed you were making baptism a part of the gospel. But you still cannot make an argument that Philip told the eunuch that baptism was necessary for salvation. It cannot be done. We don't know what the eunuch knew of baptism and its significance before they met. I would be inclined to think he knew it was a sign of repentance. Steve |

Dear Steve, I think Philip, inspired of the Spirit, gave a similar message that Peter gave on Pentecost. Acts 2:38 God bless, Disciplerami p.s. can anyone answer why this thread has been restricted from appearing on main page? |

Hello Disciplerami So you admit that neither of us has any idea what the conversation was. I can live with that. What I can't abide is an insistence on building an argument from what is not given in the text. As to your P.S.--The threads are monitored. If there is an indication if hostile conversation, aberrant teaching, detrimental promotion of a viewpoint, etc., the thread can be made restricted to prevent newcomers from being stumbled by the postings. It's somewhat subjective, but we live with it. Steve |
