I browse this site frequently but rarely feel like tossing my cents in. There's an awful lot of jot and tittle-stumping in here.
3 | To be saved must we be baptised? | Acts 2:38 | Morant61 | 78031
Greetings my friend! Unfortunately, sometimes one must dot each jot and cross each tittle! :-) In this particular thread, grammar has been stressed. But, the great thing is that grammar has rules - these aren't simply matters of opinion. I hope you toss your cents in more often! Your Brother in Christ, Tim Moran |

4 | To be saved must we be baptised? | Acts 2:38 | flinkywood@hotmail.com | 78066
Tim, I got baptized because I wanted to declare openly my decision to be belong to Jesus. I felt it as a first act of obedience to Him. I could have died before baptism, could have died before my wedding, in either case I was already married in my heart. It seems evident from scripture that all acts of faith are like that. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. (Rom 10:10) You apparently feel the same. Colin. |

It got me thinking about the Ethiopian Eunich, how amped he was: "The eunuch answered Philip and said, "Please tell me, of whom does the prophet say this? Of himself or of someone else?" Then Philip opened his mouth, and beginning from this Scripture he preached Jesus to him. As they went along the road they came to some water; and the eunuch *said, "Look! Water! What prevents me from being baptized?" [And Philip said, "If you believe with all your heart, you may." And he answered and said, "I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God."] And he ordered the chariot to stop; and they both went down into the water, Philip as well as the eunuch, and he baptized him. When they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord snatched Philip away; and the eunuch no longer saw him, but went on his way rejoicing." (Act 8:34-39) "What prevents me..?" i.e. "My heart is bursting" "Disbelief." i.e. "The heart" "I believe." i.e "Heart and mind concur." Bang, zoom, splash, rejoice! Baptism is the candle on the birthday cake. Colin. |
