Things Jesus Did Not Teach Jesus never taught: 1. Serving communion the first Sunday of every month 2. Children's outreach programs in the local church 3. Passing an offering plate in church 4. Altar calls 5. Lengthy pleas for offerings 6. Holding Sunday services at 10:00 or 10:30 a.m. 7. Signing cards pledging tithes or missionary support 8. Singing three hymns in the Sunday morning service 9. Singing off-the-wall choruses from an overhead projector in church 10. Wearing neckties to church on Sunday morning 11. Holding annual Sunday school picnics 12. Ending every prayer by saying "In Jesus Name. Amen." 13. Baptismal fonts inside the church building 14. Church buildings 15. The notion that mankind would have to wait until one 17th century English version appeared before we would ever have the only "inspired" text of the Bible 16. A democratic system of church government in which every member has a vote 17. Following Roberts' Rules of Order in church business meetings 18. Church basements or fellowship halls with kitchens 19. Printed programs for church services 20. Salaried church organists, pianists and choir directors Note that I am not necessarily opposed to these things. I am merely asking, Where in the Gospels does Jesus teach such things? |

I don't know if there is a specific verse that deals with your specific question but I would offer the following scripture Luke 10:38 Now as they were traveling along, He entered a village; and a woman named Martha welcomed Him into her home. Luke 10:39 She had a sister called Mary, who was seated at the Lord's feet, listening to His word. Luke 10:40 But Martha was distracted with all her preparations; and she came up to Him and said, "Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to do all the serving alone? Then tell her to help me." Luke 10:41 But the Lord answered and said to her, "Martha, Martha, you are worried and bothered about so many things; Luke 10:42 but only one thing is necessary, for Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken away from her." Notice that Jesus does NOT condemn or criticize Martha for tending to these duties of hers but he does place the proper emphasis on Mary's preference for listening and this in spite of the Jewish custom of putting all women in a servant position of life. Also your concerns identified above don't seem to violate Bible or Jesus' teachings, I do think they don't warrant but a minute of our time as they are strickly the administrative details. God the Creator of the Universe and His Son, Savior of the whole world "have bigger fish to fry" and higher priorities. Hope this helps. Blessings to you. Country Girl |
