2 | Question for Church of Christ. | John 1:12 | springelhaus@yahoo.com | 59574
These words are almost synonymous. Since faith is probably more associated with "trust", however, I would have to say both are necessary. There is an interesting interaction between God's grace, which leads to our faith which is then evidenced by our works that are in keeping with God's will. Obedience validates salvation. That means that baptism plays a part as well. It alone does not "save us" per se (even though 1 Peter 3:21 could mislead some to believe) but it is a necessary part in the process of being saved. The Bible always assumes that believers have been baptized (we're talking full immersion here) so people today walk thin ice when they deny its necessity. Some verses going a long with all this are: Ephesians 2:8-10 James 2:14-26 John 14:15 Matthew 7:21-23 1 John 2:3-6 For baptism see: Acts 2:38, Acts 8:26-40, Romans 6:3-4, Galatians 3:27 Hope this helps, Keith Davis reach me at springelhaus@yahoo.com if you like |

3 | Question for Church of Christ. | John 1:12 | Hank | 59579
Water baptism does NOT "validate" salvation. The blood of Jesus Christ does that and needs no further assistance from us. We are saved by grace through faith in Jesus Christ. Period. Finis. QED. --Hank
4 | Question for Church of Christ. | John 1:12 | springelhaus@yahoo.com | 59586
I said obedience validates salvation. Whether or not YOU want to obey is between you and God. If Peter can say the words of Acts 2:28, 1 Pet. 3:21, and 2 Pet. 1:20-21, and Paul can say the words of 2 Timothy 3:16-17, I can know that to use scripture complementarily is right with God and that to remove one part of it is wrong with Him. So when Peter, through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, tells me to repent AND be baptized FOR the remission of sins, it behooves me to do so. Keith |

5 | Question for Church of Christ. | John 1:12 | Hank | 59587
Keith: Here we go again, trying to justify ourselves through our obedience and not by God's grace alone. Of course we are to obey God. Of course we are to be baptized. These constitute our actions as regenerated believers but do not make us regenerated believers. --Hank
6 | Question for Church of Christ. | John 1:12 | New Creature | 59594
1 Cor. 2:14 But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know [them], because they are spiritually discerned. From the above verse, I can say that the unregenerate person cannot know or understand the things of God. So to say obedience brings salvation would be putting the cart before the horse. I agree with you Hank, when you say obedience is for those who have been regenerated. Amen |
