get real! Then I guess THOSE who lived good lives as best they could, being lead only be their consciences and having never heard the name of Jesus and the promises in Him, will go to hell? Sorry. You need more study. |

5 | Born into the Kingdom of God? | Luke 16:18 | srbaegon | 92824
Hello Ken, I may not have made myself clear. Those who died before Christ were saved by faith in God. That faith was based on His revealed word. Those who die after Christ are saved by faith in God--specifically the person and work of the Lord Jesus. That faith is based on His revealed word. Did the poor man know Jesus? No. He died before. Steve |

7 | Born into the Kingdom of God? | Luke 16:18 | srbaegon | 92831
Hello Ken, What revealed word? Whatever direct revelation God had given up to that point--words spoken to Adam and Eve and Cain; Law given to Moses; whole of the Old Testament. I've already told what saved to Abraham's bosom--the direct revelation of God, His word. Steve |

"I've already told what saved to Abraham's bosom--the direct revelation of God, His word." Naah...too vague and legalistic. Too Baptist in your thinking. The story Jesus tells mentions nothing of the poor man knowing anything about anything and being of a contrite nature. What does 'contrite' mean? Do you think it has any value in the scheme of things spiritually? |

9 | Born into the Kingdom of God? | Luke 16:18 | srbaegon | 92846
Hello Ken, That's twice now that you've called me Baptistic. Should I be pleased or insulted? :-) Too vague and legalistic? How about this? Romans 9:4 (ESV) They are Israelites, and to them belong the adoption, the glory, the covenants, the giving of the law, the worship, and the promises. Here Paul explains that only the Jews had God's truth, and only the Jews were in God's favor. It's true that Jesus never mentions these things, but the point He was talking to the Pharisees about money (Luke 16:14) and was making a point that riches won't do any good if you're not using it rightly and going to hell. Sure a contrite heart has value: Psalm 51:17 (ESV) The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise. Steve |
