2 | What is to ask and receive the Holy Spir | Luke 11:13 | mitchm0521 | 167670
When a person confesses that Jesus Christ as their Lord, they recieve the Spirit of Truth within themselves. However, there is a secondary baptism ( which means immersion ) in the Holy Ghost which comes after you believed upon the name of JEsus (Acts 2:1-4 ) When you recieve something from God, you recieve it, however we know that man can backslide, and fall away from God.. so I would assume if you get into that condition, then the HOly Ghost will not be dwelling within you. But as for a Christian, they don't have to ask everyday to be filled. It is never bad to ask for more of God in your life, but once you recieve the Holy Ghost, as they did in Acts 2:4, they had the Holy Ghost, And what do you mean by different dosages? Hi Mitch, I see absolutely no scriptural warrant for your supposition! The believer receives the Spirit ONCE- at salvation. We are however, commended to be (continually) filled (Eph. 5:18). 1. This was merely descriptive of an event that happened. You are reading something into the text that is simply not there. It is problematical at best to derive a doctrinal stand based upon a narrative like Acts. What I'm saying is this: Acts purpose is not THE blueprint for the church for all time! Paul- who essentially wrote half the NT (cf. Romans and Ephesians) neither mentions nor eludes to any such event in any of his 26 epistles! 2. What about 1 Cor. 12:13? "For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free, and we were all made to drink of one Spirit." He is saying we were ALL baptized (placed into union) with the Lord BY the agency of the Holy Spirit. It is not the Holy Spirit we were (are) baptised with, but BY! The Spirit is the agent that places us into union with the Lord. Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |

If there is not a secondary immersion into the HOly Ghost, that follows one being born again, how do you explain away Acts 2:4. What was that all about? |

Acts 2:4 does not say they were all BAPTIZED in or by the Holy Ghost (Spirit). What it says is they were FILLED with the Holy Ghost. FILLED not BAPTIZED! Acts 2:4 (KJV) And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
6 | What is to ask and receive the Holy Spir | Luke 11:13 | mitchm0521 | 167801
Yes, it says they were filled with the Holy Ghost. And Jesus in Acts 1:5 said that they would 'be baptized in the Holy Ghost, not many days hence' So yes, they were filled and they were baptized into the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues. The Lord said they would be baptized, and they were. God Bless, Mitch |

Where in the New Testament does it SAY they were baptized INTO the Holy Spirit? 1 Cor. 12:13 clearly SAYS "For by one Spirit we were all baptized INTO one body..." (NKJV emphasis added). Because the Bible itself makes a distinction between "baptized by the Holy Spirit" and "filled with the Holy Spirit", we too must make a distinction between the two terms. Baptized and filled do not both mean the same thing. Filled is not just another way of saying baptized. 1 Cor 12:13 NASB For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free, and we were all made to drink of one Spirit. The Bible in 1 Cor 12:13 says: "By one Spirit we were all baptized." Notice that this verse, in contrast with Acts 2:4, DOES use both Spirit and baptized in one sentence. This is how we were initially placed into the body of Christ. Also note that in Acts 2:4, the text there does not say: "And they were all baptized with the Holy Spirit." It uses the word "filled". "And they were all FILLED (emphasis mine) with the Holy Spirit." Filled, not baptized. Not according to the plain text of the Scripture. |

I just gave you the reference brother. Jesus said they would be baptized with the Holy Ghost not many days hence. Hey said they would be immersed with the Holy Ghost, this was after they were already believers. So it has to be secondary. Unless they needed to be 'saved' from their sins twice. Which we know is not right.
