Subject: What is to ask and receive the Holy Spir |
Bible Note: Hi Mitch, I see absolutely no scriptural warrant for your supposition! The believer receives the Spirit ONCE- at salvation. We are however, commended to be (continually) filled (Eph. 5:18). 1. This was merely descriptive of an event that happened. You are reading something into the text that is simply not there. It is problematical at best to derive a doctrinal stand based upon a narrative like Acts. What I'm saying is this: Acts purpose is not THE blueprint for the church for all time! Paul- who essentially wrote half the NT (cf. Romans and Ephesians) neither mentions nor eludes to any such event in any of his 26 epistles! 2. What about 1 Cor. 12:13? "For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body, whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free, and we were all made to drink of one Spirit." He is saying we were ALL baptized (placed into union) with the Lord BY the agency of the Holy Spirit. It is not the Holy Spirit we were (are) baptised with, but BY! The Spirit is the agent that places us into union with the Lord. Speaking the Truth in Love, BradK |
