The Law under the New Covenant [candy lee: I present the following for your consideration. I would appreciate any feedback you wish to give. If you disagree with any of the following, could you quote at least some of the part(s) you disagree with and comment on the Scripture references cited, telling us why you disagree. It is not my intention to challenge or debate you or put you on the defensive. I do respect your views and I just wondered what your reaction is to the following. --Radioman2] 'The Law under the New Covenant. 'The New Testament's statements about Old Testament law are difficult to harmonize. On the one hand, some New Testament statements indicate that under the new covenant the whole law is in some sense abrogated (Rom 6:14, "you are not under law" Rom 10:4, "Christ is the end of the law" ). 'Direct application of cultic laws is clearly excluded in the New Testament. Food laws, circumcision, sacrifices, temple, and priesthood have been superseded (Mark 7:19; 1 Cor 7:19; Heb 7:11-19, 28; 8:13; 10:1-9). Christ has abolished in his flesh the commandments and regulations that separated Jew from Gentile (Eph 2:15). 'Dispensationalism concludes from these statements that Christians are under no Mosaic laws, not even the Decalogue, but are instead under the law of Christ (Gal 6:2; 1 Cor 9:21).' [Note to clarify my position: I do not consider myself a Dispensationalist. --Radioman2] ____________________ From the article "The Law", Baker's Evangelical Dictionary of Biblical Theology. Rom 10:4 The law of the priest which goverened sacifices that pointed to Christ's mission on Earth which he was the sacrifice or lamb without spot that he bought us for a price and that is with his blood. The book of Heb. Paul compares the Earthly sanctuary with the Heavenly sanctuary. The Earthly was to teach the people what Christ was going to do for them. They refused him becaused they had lost thier love for Holy things and for God. They wanted to be exalted among nations and didn;t care for Spiratual things. Christ is in the Heavenly sanctuary now as our High Priest making atonement for our sins with his blood. The laws that were done away with are those laws of sacrifice and of circumcision, because Christ has forfilled those. Dan 9:27 Mt 5:18 If Christ was to make void all the laws then why did he say in the New Testament to keep them if we love him? And John the beloved said those who say they know Him and keep not the commandments is a liar and the truth is not in him. Rev. even talks about those who keep the commandments. Mt 5:18,19 and 19:17 Lk 18:20 Jn 14:15,21 and 15:10 Rev 12:17 14:12 22:14 So why are there so many references to the commandments if they are no longer in force. The laws that separated the Jews and Gentiles were done away with I agree but not the royal law or as most call then the ten commandments. I've been discussing some of these things with Darcy too. Thanks and write back if you have anything else for me or if you can explain the text I gave you. On another subject do you know anything about the maccabees and the war? I'm having a hard time locating info on it. |
