1 | Please explain this verse? Mark 15:34 | Mark 15:34 | Hawaii Ken Armstrong | 1162
In order for Christ to pay the full price for our sins, He had to experience death and Hell as a man. This was the first time, since the beginning of all time, that He experienced separation from His identity as the Word of God (John 1:1).
2 | Experience Hell? | Mark 15:34 | charis | 1166
Shaka, braddah! I got the 'understand death' part, but I'm not sure what you mean about the 'experience Hell' part? Again, 'separation' from His identity? Please elaborate. In Jesus.
3 | Experience Hell? | Mark 15:34 | Hawaii Ken Armstrong | 1173
The only way Christ could pay the price for our sins was to actually experience the pain of separation from God. At the moment of His crucifixion, He took upon Himself all of the sins of man. Though God was with Him -- just as God is always with us -- Christ experienced the crucifixion and death as a man. He "descended into Hell" and rose again on the third day. Salvation comes to men not by their own works, but by accepting the payment Christ made for our sins (John 3:16-17, Romans 3:23).
4 | Experience Hell? | Mark 15:34 | charis | 1191
Friend, though I (obviously) agree with the scriptures you quoted, I asked about the 'experienced Hell' part because I do not think He did experience damnation. I agree that Jesus bore our sins and experienced death. I believe He rose on the third day. But I think His experience in Hell was as a 'Conqueror.' He went down to the abyss specifically to take away the power of death. It was no 'close thing,' but a one-sided rout against Satan's authority. This is just my idea of what happened, and theological statement. In Christ Jesus.
