I'm sure there are many opinions about your question. We will know the answer when we get there. In the mean time we must make a personal decision to become disciples of Jesus not merely followers. After reading the following verses, it became my desire to never hear these words from Jesus. The Holy Bible, American Standard Version Matt. 7:21 through Matt. 7:23 (ASV) 21Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father who is in heaven. 22Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy by thy name, and by thy name cast out demons, and by thy name do many mighty works? 23And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity. My life became a quest for improving the relationship with Him. I wanted to know him more intimately that I know my wife. This is how it should be with all believers. I don't have a religion. I have a relationship. I do not strive to follow the word, I allow the word to wash me, to renew me, and the power of God within me to guide me and I find I am living the word of God. |

Without the grace of God, none would be saved. It is our faith in His Provision that saves us. Not of works, none can boast. Salvation comes after repentance, it is a process, not an event. |

As in, Matthew 4:17 From then on, Jesus began to preach, "Turn from your sins and turn to God, because the Kingdom of Heaven is near." -which is translated as Repent in the KJV.

Greetings AF, I’m not saying that I completely disagree with you but the verse you used to explain repentance, in Matt. doesn’t say what you’ve implied in the KJV. Matthew 4:17 (KJV) From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. Using the word to describe it isn’t a definition the way I see it. Have a great day, CDBJ |

If showing that repentance is turning from sin using two translations doesn't define it, what would?

Hi AF, Maybe I missed something in your post; I’ve been known to do that now and again? What two translations were in reference I only noticed the one, (KJV)? I also notice that you made a change in post #187070 form (sins), to (sin) in post #187288 is there a difference? CDBJ |

Matthew 4:17 From then on, Jesus began to preach, "Turn from your sins and turn to God, because the Kingdom of Heaven is near." (New Living Translation) Matthew 4:17 From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand. (King James Version 1611, 1769) Sins are acts we commit. Sin is the nature imputed to mankind through Adam. Jesus not only died for our sins, the acts we commit that fall short of the glory of God, but for sin, the nature that makes us blind to God's righteousness and our relationship to Him that is now restored through Christ. |
