Dear Bill, What is it that produces a "broken spirit" in the hearts and minds of believers and unbelievers alike? Is it not sin? For what separates us from God? Is it not sin? (John 16:9) And what are we to do when we have a "broken heart" because of our sin? Psalm 34:18 and 51:17 speaks volumes! Bill, how would we apply this parable to our own lives if we, as believers, should not ask the Father for forgiveness of our own sins? "Luke 7:40 Jesus said to him, "Simon, I have something to say to you." "Teacher," he replied, "say it." Luke 7:41 "Two men were in debt to a moneylender. One owed him 500 denarii, and the other fifty. Luke 7:42 When they couldn't pay it back, he generously canceled the debts for both of them. Now which of them will love him the most?" Luke 7:43 Simon answered, "I suppose the one who had the larger debt canceled." Jesus said to him, "You have answered correctly." Luke 7:44 Then, turning to the woman, he said to Simon, "Do you see this woman? I came into your house. You didn't give me any water for my feet, but this woman has washed my feet with her tears and dried them with her hair. Luke 7:45 You didn't give me a kiss, but this woman, from the moment I came in, has not stopped kissing my feet. Luke 7:46 You didn't anoint my head with oil, but this woman has anointed my feet with perfume. Luke 7:47 So I'm telling you that her sins, as many as they are, have been forgiven, and that's why she has shown such great love. But the one to whom little is forgiven loves little." Luke 7:48 Then Jesus said to her, "Your sins are forgiven!" Luke 7:49 Those who were at the table with them began to say among themselves, "Who is this man who even forgives sins?" Luke 7:50 But Jesus said to the woman, "Your faith has saved you. Go in peace." (ISV) Please also consider Psalm 32:5 "Psalm 32:5 I confessed my sin to You, and my iniquity I have not hidden. I said, I will confess my transgression to Jehovah; and You forgave the iniquity of my sin. Selah." (MKJV) --Nolan |

Nolan, please consider Hebrews 10:14-18: Heb 10:14 For by one offering He has perfected for all time those who are sanctified. Heb 10:15 And the Holy Spirit also testifies to us; for after saying, Heb 10:16 "THIS IS THE COVENANT THAT I WILL MAKE WITH THEM AFTER THOSE DAYS, SAYS THE LORD: I WILL PUT MY LAWS UPON THEIR HEART, AND ON THEIR MIND I WILL WRITE THEM," He then says, Heb 10:17 "AND THEIR SINS AND THEIR LAWLESS DEEDS I WILL REMEMBER NO MORE." Heb 10:18 Now where there is forgiveness of these things, there is no longer any offering for sin. Please refrain from using the Old Covenant to answer a New Covenant question. In Him, Bill Mc |
