Dear Inquisitor, You say: "Guide us? Absolutely. The only single one of the 10 Commandments NOT endorsed in Christianity is the sanctity of the Sabbath as it was strictly part of the previous regime. But the other 9 commandments were issued as basic Godly principles for all mankind to live throughout all time." I agree that Christians do not observe the Sabbath as the Isrealite did in the OT. However, since Jesus Christ came, the Sabbath has been viewed anew. Matthew 11:28-29 Hebrew Ch 3-4 Shalom Azure |

Quoted from Azure: I agree that Christians do not observe the Sabbath as the Isrealite did in the OT. However, since Jesus Christ came, the Sabbath has been viewed anew. I realize that there's been a group of people observing the Sabbath but under what authority? Why do they NOT continue the whole Law of Moses including animal sacrifices and all the other 600 plus laws of the OT? Like Paul says, you cannot just simply choose to observe only a part of it and hope to please God. One should always be anxious to please God by worshiping Him with His blessing as mentioned in Colossians 3:17 And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him. and 1 Corinthians 1:10 Now I plead with you, brethren, by the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you all speak the same thing, and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly joined together in the same mind and in the same judgment. |

Inquisitor, Good day to ya. There has been constant squabble and argument where the OT and OT law are concerned. And in large part to two words, Abolish and fulfill. Time after time we hear the statement the law has been abolished. Chapter and vers--e please. Fulfill yes,absolutely! Jesus even says so Himself. Matt 5:17,18. 2 Ti 3:16-17 tells us that all scripture is God breathed. Why would one want to minimalise or discount any part of Gods Word. We cant afford to do that. The whole of scripture is there for our benefit and instruction. It behooves us to keep our hearts and minds in it. 2 Ti 2:15. We are no longer under the law but may I suggest that there is plenty to point and guide people to Christ. In Him, lionheart |

4 | Who to follow? Jesus or Moses | Matt 5:17 | Inquisitor | 223286 | ||
I'd be the last person in the world to minimize the value of the OT as I've mentioned in a previous post. BUT we must NOT confuse our love for the usefulness and the beauty of the OT with the Authority from God's Word. We shouldn't want to argue with God, just follow It. It certainly was NOT my idea to do away with the Authority of the OT; it's God's Word throughout the NT that does that as shown in the previous verses. As you alluded to, IMHO, the most powerful verse is Gal 3:11 But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith. 12 And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live in them. 13 CHRIST HATH REDEEMED US FROM THE CURSE OF THE LAW, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: 14 That the blessing of Abraham might come on the GENTILES THROUGH JESUS CHRIST; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. 15 Brethren, I speak after the manner of men; Though it be but a man's covenant, yet if it be confirmed, no man disannulleth, or addeth thereto. 16 Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ. 17 And this I say, that the covenant, that was confirmed before of God in Christ, the law, which was four hundred and thirty years after, cannot disannul, that it should make the promise of none effect. 18 For if the inheritance be of the law, it is no more of promise: but God gave it to Abraham by promise. 19 Wherefore then serveth the law? It was added because of transgressions, till the seed should come to whom the promise was made; and it was ordained by angels in the hand of a mediator. 20 Now a mediator is not a mediator of one, but God is one. 21 Is the law then against the promises of God? God forbid: for if there had been a law given which could have given life, verily righteousness should have been by the law. 22 But the scripture hath concluded all under sin, that the promise by faith of Jesus Christ might be given to them that believe. 23 But before faith came, we were kept under the law, shut up unto the faith which should afterwards be revealed. 24 Wherefore THE LAW WAS OUR SCHOOLMASTER TO BRING US UNTO CHRIST, that we might be justified by faith. 25 BUT AFTER THAT FAITH IS COME, WE ARE NO LONGER UNDER A SCHOOLMASTER. 26 FOR YE ARE ALL THE CHILDREN OF GOD BY FAITH IN CHRIST JESUS. 27 For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ. and Col 2:11 In Him you were also circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the sins of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, 12 buried with Him in baptism, in which you also were raised with Him through faith in the working of God, who raised Him from the dead. 13 And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has made alive together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses, 14 having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. 15 Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it. I don't see how it could have been said any clearer. Although we may appreciate and even give some celebration to our forefathers in defending this country, we DON'T live by the words they spoke. We MUST live by the current laws and words spoken through current laws and requirements in today's world. In the same manner, God REQUIRED certain things to be followed like sacrifices of animals and other Jewish laws in the Law of Moses to be strictly followed. We all know how harshly criticized the Jewish leaders for NOT following God's Laws. But NOW that Jesus has indeed taken that Old Law to the cross with Him and removed its Authority, we no longer have to follow it. The whole Book of Hebrews is dedicated to many main points, but one of the most prominent is the fact that the NT is BETTER than the OT. As a matter of fact, the word "better" is cited in Hebrews 14 times, comparing all the points of the NT that are better than the OT. As I said, I love the OT for its beauty and majesty but it's like admiring it in a museum. Its Glory Days have come and gone. Now this dispensation belongs to Christ as cited in Col 1:18 And HE IS THE HEAD OF THE BODY, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things HE MAY HAVE THE PREEMINENCE. Note: All the captilized writing above is mine for emphasis. |
