1 | What was reason for the virgin birth? | Matt 4:1 | humbledbyhisgrace | 184962
Dear John! Read these passages to get a good idea of what is meant by the sinful flesh (Romans 7:5, 7:18, 7:25, 8:4-5, 8:8-9, 8:12-13) I think on this point of a sinful nature Romans 8:3 says it all. Romans 8:3 (NASB) For what the Law could not do, weak as it was through the flesh, God did: sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh, Notice Paul is clear on the matter after speaking of the weakness of the flesh he points out that the Son was sent in the LIKENESS of sinful flesh, he was not sent in sinful flesh. Also, take a closer look at the quote of Hodge. He states "Temptation implies the possibility of sin". I would argue that the only implication that can be granted in my opinion is that in the mind of the tempter there is potential for the one being tempted to sin. There is only an assumption on the part of the tempter of the possibility. There may be a great desire on the tempters part, but it is just that, his desire. It does not stand to reason that his assumption is imputed to the tempted and attributes nothing to what potential is actually there or not in the tempted. By Faith, Steve |

2 | What was reason for the virgin birth? | Matt 4:1 | stjohn | 184968
Brother Steve Hello! I think what it is, is that the question that was on my heart perhaps is something that has not accrued to you, and that is not at at all to decrease your astuteness at all. But my question my friend has been answered for me and I don't see a need to pursue this matter, as it I am afraid it could become confusing and divisive. Please allow me to bow out gracefully. If you follow this thread I hope you will see the point that I was trying to make. If you should disagree with my point, I am more then ok with that. Please know my heart. I would not imply something that could diminish or demean Our Lord He is THe Great God of Mercy, Love, and Justus. He is my everything! Peace, Love, Honor, and Respect, to you in Christ. stj |

Dear steve; I do hope you are not offended by my putting you off I really didn't intend that. and I am sorry. Its just that some questions that I had, had been answered for me, and your post seemed to have an opposing viewpoint so I really just didn't see any profit for our mutual edification. I hope this is ok and there are no hard feelings. Brotherly love in HIM. Always....And again..I am sorry! Peace stj |

7 | What was reason for the virgin birth? | Matt 4:1 | BradK | 185011
May I add some perspective from C.H. Spurgeon, taken from his sermon on Heb. 4:15- "I am happy to come to my last point, through divine aid. OUR LORD HAS A TENDER PERFECTNESS. As I read the verse — “In all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin,” I thought I heard you say, “But that is just the pinch of the matter. He cannot sympathize with me in sin, and that is my great trouble.” Brother, do you wish that your Lord had become a sinner like yourself? Abhor the idea! It would be blasphemy if understood and indulged. You see at once that you could not wish anything of the kind. But listen to me; do not imagine that if the Lord Jesus had sinned he would have been any more tender toward you; for sin is always of a hardening nature. If the Christ of God could have sinned, he would have lost the perfection of his sympathetic nature. It needs perfectness of heart to lay self all aside, and to be touched with a feeling of the infirmities of others." BradK |
