1 | What does water baptism do? | Matt 3:15 | 2ndSamuel22 | 52662
Dear fellow believers, Luke 18:17 "Truly I say to you, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it at all." (NASB) What does this mean?(And I don't want to hear any new covenant/old covenant arguments). Jesus is telling us, that the path to the Kingdom of God is so easy, that even a child could understand it. Children don't give a wit about doctrine, different paths, etc. They understand John 14:6, "Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me." Notice, He does not say, "Believe in Me, and get baptized." That is what it means to "receive the kingdom of God like a child". Continue in praise, lifting up holy hands!! 2nd Samuel 22 |

You wrote: "Jesus is telling us, that the path to the Kingdom of God is so easy, that even a child could understand it." I disagree. There is nothing in the text of Luke 18 to indicate that Jesus is rejecting "doctrine." Doctrine is the teaching of Scripture, so it is nonsense that the teacher would be saying that His teaching does not matter. You wrote: "They understand John 14:6" John 14:6 IS doctrine, just like everything else Jesus said. More likely, Jesus is talking about children acutely realizing their need and utter dependence upon someone else for their survival. Children have nothing to offer in the way of self-sustainance and have to rely completely on someone outside themselves for what they need. Just like little children, we have nothing to offer God to merit or earn salvation; we must merely receive what God freely bestows upon His people. As the hymn goes, "Nothing in my hand I bring, / Simply to the cross I cling." That is what it means to "receive the kingdom of God like a child". --Joe! |

grace abd truth: I am not sure if you remember our dialogue some time ago. To refresh your mind, As a pastor I was called tovisit a lady near death with cancer. She was hooked up to all kinds of tubes and the whole medical stuff that ties one down. She could no longer wald, and barely spoke. I introduced her to the Lord Jesus Christ. She prayed to make Him Lord of her life. If ever there was a person wanting to be baptized she was willing to crawl if she could have. I sprinkled her as a symbol as of her faith in Christ. She was aware this was not baptism. But it was as close as she could come. She died in faith and peace. If you recall you said to me this woman went to hell. I have never forgotten your words. I have prayed for you to receive God's Grace and Truth as well as finding what Mercy is. I wonder if you have ever faced a situation of introducing a dying person to Christ? What would you say to them? I am sorry because you can not be baptized there is no use in telling you about Christ? Doctors, nurses, and paramedics are required to do what they can to save life. Are we as Christians not to live up to a higher Code of God then these medically trained persons. Do you not think God would hold you to an even higher responsibility? I personally leave the Judgement part of the persons heart up to Jesus Christ. You see that's not what he has called me to do. I am called to go tell and make learners and then to baptize.
