1 | Baptized by Holy Spirit? | Matt 3:11 | DocTrinsograce | 239386
Hello, Justin... Welcome to the forum! I checked several commentaries, and it appears that the consensus is that the fire is a reference to how the Holy Spirit operates upon the soul. This not a reference to some kind of "second blessing" -- nor are there any didactic references to such a teaching. Rather, the Holy Spirit comes upon and indwells a person upon salvation (Titus 3:5-7). In Him, Doc |

I believe the baptism of fire mentioned in the book of Acts ,Acts 2:3 And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them, is refering to the Apostles when as a sign they had recieved the power of the Holy Spirit.

Yes, Acts 2 describes the event that Christ promised, "But I tell you the truth, it is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but if I go, I will send Him to you." (John 16:7 NASB) A narrative event would not be a useful way to establish a practice as normative or a doctrine definitive. In Him, Doc |
