AMPLIFIED 2015 | Matthew 3:11 ¶ "As for me, I baptize you with water because of [your] repentance [that is, because you are willing to change your inner self--your old way of thinking, regret your sin and live a changed life], but He (the Messiah) who is coming after me is mightier [more powerful, more noble] than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to remove [even as His slave]; He will baptize you [who truly repent] with the Holy Spirit and [you who remain unrepentant] with fire (judgment). Bible Note: Hi, Ed... Arriving at the right conclusion for the wrong reasons is probably almost worse than arriving at the wrong conclusion. This is what I appreciate about Fee. He is, indeed, decidedly AOG -- his stuff on church polity, for example, carefully and thoughtfully does not depart from his denominational roots. Which thing, by the way, certainly makes sense: his ordination would depend on it. For what its worth, he is finest of exegetes with whom I am aware. I have learned a great deal from Gordon Fee on rightly interpreting our sole source of revealed truth: the Word of God. I wish that every believer would read his books on the subject. More than that, I wish that his time tested principles of interpretation were applied. Goodness, if half of them were applied there were would be a tenth as much nonsense out there. I bought a case of Fee's "How to" books, to give to friends and family. By the way, his "New Testament Exegesis: A Handbook for Students and Pastors" now in its third edition, is also a book no serious student of the bible should be without.
