1 | Discussion Question | Matt 19:24 | prayon | 61421
The bible has much to say on money and riches. My discussion question is this: Do you believe that it is a sin for Christians to have expensive things (cars, houses, jewelry, ect) and have an excess of money in the bank or do you believe that Christians are called to live a simple lifestyle? Do you feel that God would consider you greedy with an excess of money in the bank? prayon |

2 | Discussion Question | Matt 19:24 | Mapes | 61433
Hi prayon, I don't feel that God has a problem with Christians being wealthy. As long as the wealth was obtained honestly and that the "THINGS" are not put before God!! As to living a "simple" lifestyle, I feel God requires we live according to His will and that we put Him first and foremost in our lives. If we do that, everything else will fall into God's "Master Plan" for each Christian's life!!! I would just like to say...I feel that wealth and things will NOT keep a Christian out of heaven!! Besides...money is needed for the extension of God's kingdom and why should satan have access to the wealth that is in this world? By the way, I am NOT wealthy!! God Bless, Maple |

3 | Discussion Question | Matt 19:24 | EdB | 61435
Maple Actually God does have a problem with wealthy or rich people. Matthew 19:24 "Again I say to you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God." The problem is not the money the problem is where your heart is. When you have little to care for it takes little of your time or attention. When you have much to care for it requires more time and attention. Your are right we are to be stewards and it does make sense the God’s people have the money rather than the adversary. However to be good stewards means to put the money to good use rather than building or maintaining. Too many get money and then end up being consumed trying to hang on to it. EdB |

4 | Discussion Question | Matt 19:24 | prayon | 61474
Greetings Ed, Does this mean that you think Christians should not have thousands of dollars in a savings account and that as soon as we get a little extra we should devote it to God's kiingdom? prayon
5 | Discussion Question | Matt 19:24 | EdB | 61507
Prayon It means if we are accumulating money instead of putting it to work our focus is wrong. Now some money can be saved and still be put to work such as retirement accounts and such. But even that can go over board I know one person that has 450 thousand socked away and claims to be to poor to buy the children Birthday gifts. Having money is not the problem or even how much. The problem is what is your focus. What do you guard your soul or your money? It becomes real telling when we get a windfall. One faithful man paid his tithe each pay day the check he wrote was for 500 dollars. Then he got a windfall of 100,000. He could not bring himself to write check for 10,000 even though he gave that much in 20 pay days. He rationalized it and said he didn't want to appear to be a show off. He was a afraid the church would waste the money. Over time God was able to reveal to him that all he really was doing was trying to protect his windfall and that doing that had become more important than God in his life. That there was a problem. Interestingly enough he gave his 10,000 to God and a little more and within 10 years he had another windfall of 200,000. Again he had the same problem only worst. God clearly showed him where his love was and the man again had to repent. We are to be stewards of God’s money. God allows us to use it any way we want He just looks at how we handled it. What became most important in our lives. EdB |
