Col 3:17 Whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through Him to God the Father. With the words from Jesus and these words from Paul, it does seem the Bible is very clear that we as God's people should strive for this as a high priority in our lives. But I think that's also where Grace comes in, to make up for our shortcomings. As long as we really are genuinely giving God our very best, He'll meet us to make up the balance. Blessings to you. 4 | Are "careless words" sin? | Matt 12:36 | Country Girl | 123807
I would have to say yes. We know from the many pictures painted throughout the Bible depicting Judgment Day, there's only going to be two groups of people: those who were faithful and kept their Lord as a high priority in their life and those that didn't. BUT I do think the Greek word for careless was a little more suggestive of sin than we mean in today's world. I'm certain our Lord doesn't mean for us, his children to NOT enjoy a good wholesome joke or to recognize humor in our world. We don't see Jesus in very many humorous situations but that's because he had such a serious job of saving the lost from a dying world and He had such a short time to wrap up His mission. Do you have any idea of the exact Greek word for "careless" and its full meaning? What are your thoughts on this matter? Blessings to you. Country Girl |

5 | Are "careless words" sin? | Matt 12:36 | Mommapbs | 123809
Greetings Country Girl, you wrote: "there's only going to be two groups of people: those who were faithful and kept their Lord as a high priority in their life and those that didn't." This is akin to "works-based slavation." There are going to be two groups of people, those who have believed God and as a result are credited with righteousness and those who have not believed God. We are saved by GRACE, not by being "faithful and keeping the Lord as a high priority." The Lord God IS THE priority! The word careless in the Greek means idle or useless. As I read this passage and consider the Judgment Seat of Christ (which is only for believers) I suspect that these careless words are anything apart from Christ at work in our lives. It is like building with wood, hay and straw instead of with gold and precious stones 1 Cor 3:11-15. Jesus says, "apart from Me you can do nothing." John 15:5 In our "review" before Christ, I suspect that we will be saddened when we realize how many opportunities we missed because we chose not to work with Jesus in us. Yet, here comes that Grace you mentioned in your first post. We have no fear of condemnation because our sins are covered by His blood, they are rmembered no more: John 5:24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life. Rom 8:1 "Therefore there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus." Isa 43:25 "Thus saith the Lord … “I, even I, am he that blotteth out thy transgressions for mine own sake, and will not remember thy sins”. 2 Cor 5:10 "After we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may be recompensed for his deeds in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad." At the Bema Seat, believers are recompensed for the deeds done in the body, good or bad. The recompense is a reward, not a condemnation. Our sins were dealt with at the cross. IMO,those things that are "bad" are those done apart from Christ, (they are useless, idle, therefore implicit is that they are without the power of Christ) they will be burned up - our dross is removed - this, in a way is also a type of reward! We suffer loss, because we missed opportunities, in this we suffer the consequences of our sin. But our sin is not counted against us as it was placed on Christ, once and for all. I've read your post twice but I'm not certain of your position. Are you saying we ARE going to answer for all the careless words we say or not? Also, since you bring it up. Are you saying that once we become christians, we don't have anything more to do for Christ? We can coast on into Heaven, doing absolutely nothing more? If so, what about all the scriptures that depict the christian way of life after being saved. If we are to do something, what are we to do? Can you provide scriptures? Blessings to you.
