1 | Unclean food for the Christian? | Lev 1:1 | kalos | 105966
Kwigger: What do I make of all the verses I quoted? I take them at face value. I don't know of any other way to interpret them. Also, I would like to reiterate what I posted before: Many times I have heard people say that in Matthew 5:17, the word "fulfill" means to abolish. If that be true, then Jesus is saying: "Do not think that I came to abolish the Law...I did not come to abolish, but to abolish." --kalos |

2 | Unclean food for the Christian? | Lev 1:1 | Kwigger | 105967
Kalos, I've spent some time with this passage in the past. I'm not sure I understand what point you are making. I think "fulfill" means something more like illuminate or elaborate on. I was a little surprised and I found it interesting that "fulfill" in 17 and "fulfilled" in 18 are translated from two entirely different Greek words. Break out your Strong's and let me know what you think. If you take these passages at face value, is your behavior interpreted as "Jewish" by alot of Christians? Are you a sabbath keeper? Do you observe the feasts and eat kosher? Just curious. Kharis and shalom, Kwigger |

3 | Unclean food for the Christian? | Lev 1:1 | kalos | 105973
Kwigger: My point is it is a contradiction to say fulfill means abolish. To do so is to make Matthew 5:17 contradict itself. The point I am making is that Jesus did not come to abolish the law, make it of no effect, do away with it, undo it, or overthrow it. I am not a sabbath keeper, but I do know that the Sabbath has not been changed to Sunday. Sunday was not, is not now and never will be the Sabbath. I neither observe the feasts nor eat kosher. Peace, kalos |

Greetings Kalos! It is good to see that an old timer is still hanging around! :-) May I throw out a question for consideration? How does v. 18 relate to v. 17? I note that v. 18 includes an 'until' clause. My understanding of this passage is similar to that expressed in the Bible Knowledge Commentary concerning Rom. 10:4: ************************************** It introduces a statement that is crucial to Paul’s explanation of Israel’s stumbling — Christ is the end of the Law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes. The word translated 'end' (telos) stands in the emphatic first position in the Greek sentence. It means that Christ is the designed end (termination) or Purpose-Goal of the Law (cf. Gal. 3:24), the Object to which the Law pointed. The Law did not and could not of itself provide righteousness before God for individuals (cf. Rom. 3:20; 7:7). But Christ fulfilled the Law (Matt. 5:17-18) by keeping it perfectly during His sinless life (cf. John 8:46) and then gave His life in payment for the penalty of sin and the broken Law (cf. Eph. 2:15; Col. 2:13-14). The Law then pointed to Him as the Source of the God - provided righteousness it could not supply (Gal. 3:24). A godly Jew who trusted Yahweh and followed the Levitical system, including the sin offering and the trespass offering, would most likely be inclined to respond to Christ by faith and would receive God’s righteousness (i.e., be justified; Acts 13:39; Rom. 3:24; 4:3, 5). He then could meet the requirements of the Law by the indwelling Holy Spirit (8:4). Conversely, a Jew who sought by works to establish his own righteousness would not recognize Christ as 'the end of the Law' and would stumble over Him. **************************************** Take care my friend!
