1 | Does not tithing disqualify leadership? | Mal 3:10 | Jensen | 21950
Dear Mommapbs....Please consider this view... AM 4:5 Burn leavened bread as a thank offering and brag about your freewill offerings-- boast about them, you Israelites, for this is what you love to do," declares the Sovereign LORD. I would not worry too much about what other Christians, leaders or not, do about freewill offerings. If there is no hypocrisy on the part of the leader, if the leader does not tithe while encouraging others to do so, then why disqualify the leader? There are plenty of New Testament guidelines for leaders (cf. 1 and 2Timothy, Titus) but tithing is not one of them. You may want to consider... MT 7:3 "Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 4 How can you say to your brother, "Let me take the speck out of your eye," when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye." 2 | Does not tithing disqualify leadership? | Mal 3:10 | Mommapbs | 22003
Clarification on my question. I am concerned about the church that looks at the giving record of its members, and based upon that giving record, the administration of the church decides if an individual is being obedient to "tithing." If the church judges that the individual is tithing TO THAT CHURCH,then that individual is deemed qualified to serve in a leadership role in that local body of believers. For years we have responded and have given as directed by the Lord. Sadly, that giving has become public knowledge, and the local church was NOT the PRIMARY recepient of our stewardship. So, based upon our giving record to the church,it has been decided, that we are not tithing TO THE CHURCH and therefore we are excluded from leadership in the church. In the Pastor's words, our heart is where our treasure is and our treasure is not at the local church building. So here is the real issue at hand - should we be disqualified from leadership because we have given more to the Lord at ABC Ministry and less to the Lord at the local church? |

3 | Does not tithing disqualify leadership? | Mal 3:10 | Jensen | 22041
You wrote to ask... "So here is the real issue at hand - should we be disqualified from leadership because we have given more to the Lord at ABC Ministry and less to the Lord at the local church?" ...and I would like to offer my view. I do not tithe. I give money (Time and Talent also) to bring people closer to our Lord; believers and non-believers alike. I know that when I expend my resources I am blessed beyond my understanding. It feels real good! And I learn so much about my own walk with our Lord that I wonder. Do I do this for others or for myself? I am a cheerful giver. And at the same time I have become a leader in my own right, by His image. If it were insisted that I pay the membership fee of a "local" church, I would most certainly be unable to do what I do with my remaining offering. Yet everyone agrees that I provide a good study of the first 11 chapters of the Bible from a scientific point of view. It is evangelistic but also serves to strenghten belief in the Bible as it is written. So what to do? :-) Am I called to church leadership? Hardly. Am I called to be a leader in His church. Cheerfully!! God Bless....Jensen |
