1 | Tithes into the storehouse | Mal 3:10 | retxar | 21867
Mal 3:10 says to bring the whole tithe into the storehouse. Does "the storehouse" mean one's own fellowship? Would money given to ministries outside your local fellowship count as part of your tithe? Paul told us to give regularly and proportionately (1Co_16:1-2). If I have chosen to give 10 percent regularly and proportionately would money I give outside my fellowship be considered part of that 10 percent? Thanks, retxar |

2 | Tithes into the storehouse | Mal 3:10 | charis | 21869
Dear retxar, Greetings in Jesus' name! The New Testament does not say very much about the amount, but says a lot about the attitude of giving. My own understanding is that the tithe was for the priests, thus would correspond with your local church, i.e. those who shepherd you and those with whom you share a commitment. Offerings are that which God speaks to your heart by the Holy Spirit, and can be given to any person or ministry that He leads you to. Personally, I do not hold too much faith in 'para-church ministries,' but I have given to those outside my fellowship on many occasions. This was in accord with the leading of the Holy Spirit, and I will continue to seek His counsel. Again, as to tithes, I believe it is for the building and maintenance of your local church, and especially for those who watch over your soul. By the way, I do not believe in 'special appeals' for money that come regularly. While I agree that there may be a time when the Lord will lead a minister to ask his flock to provide for a special need, I see many churches that have special needs all too often! This speaks to me of poor management of God's resources, and fleecing an already shorn sheep! :-) Blessings to you in Christ Jesus, charis |

3 | Does not tithing disqualify leadership? | Mal 3:10 | Mommapbs | 21944
If one is led by the Spirit to give, and "para-church" ministries have consistently been that leading, should an individual be disqualified for a leadership role within the local church because the entire tithe has not been given to that institution?
4 | Does not tithing disqualify leadership? | Mal 3:10 | Jensen | 21950
Dear Mommapbs....Please consider this view... AM 4:5 Burn leavened bread as a thank offering and brag about your freewill offerings-- boast about them, you Israelites, for this is what you love to do," declares the Sovereign LORD. I would not worry too much about what other Christians, leaders or not, do about freewill offerings. If there is no hypocrisy on the part of the leader, if the leader does not tithe while encouraging others to do so, then why disqualify the leader? There are plenty of New Testament guidelines for leaders (cf. 1 and 2Timothy, Titus) but tithing is not one of them. You may want to consider... MT 7:3 "Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? 4 How can you say to your brother, "Let me take the speck out of your eye," when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? 5 You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye." God Bless....Jensen |

Scripture ... Matthew 7 continues ... with us judging who is hogs and dogs and it is hypocrisy to ask others to do something you are not willing to do. Take off the mask. Searcher |
