1 | Sunday Sabbath or not? | Ex 20:8 | sethknorr | 232776
First you have to remember that Jesus would have observed the Sabbath because he was fulfilling the law. Now we can enter a permanent rest from works, and thus we do not observe the sabbath. If we did, then we would have to follow the law, which means we could not even pick up sticks. Also the sabbath is on Saturday and no where in the Bible does it state that has changed. Colossians 2:16 14having canceled out the certificate of debt consisting of decrees against us, which was hostile to us; and He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. 15When He had disarmed the rulers and authorities, He made a public display of them, having triumphed over them through Him. 16Therefore no one is to act as your judge in regard to food or drink or in respect to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath day— 17things which are a mere shadow of what is to come; but the substance belongs to Christ. Galatians 4:7-10 7Therefore you are no longer a slave, but a son; and if a son, then an heir through God. 8However at that time, when you did not know God, you were slaves to those which by nature are no gods. 9But now that you have come to know God, or rather to be known by God, how is it that you turn back again to the weak and worthless elemental things, to which you desire to be enslaved all over again? 10You observe days and months and seasons and years. 11I fear for you, that perhaps I have labored over you in vain. In verse 3 below it specifically points out that Christians enter God's rest and therefore have no regulation to continue to observe the Sabbath. Hebrews 4:3-11 3For we who have believed enter that rest, just as He has said, "AS I SWORE IN MY WRATH, THEY SHALL NOT ENTER MY REST," although His works were finished from the foundation of the world. 4For He has said somewhere concerning the seventh day: "AND GOD RESTED ON THE SEVENTH DAY FROM ALL HIS WORKS"; 5and again in this passage, "THEY SHALL NOT ENTER MY REST." 6Therefore, since it remains for some to enter it, and those who formerly had good news preached to them failed to enter because of disobedience, 7He again fixes a certain day, "Today," saying through David after so long a time just as has been said before, "TODAY IF YOU HEAR HIS VOICE, DO NOT HARDEN YOUR HEARTS." 8For if Joshua had given them rest, He would not have spoken of another day after that. 9So there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God. 10For the one who has entered His rest has himself also rested from his works, as God did from His. 11Therefore let us be diligent to enter that rest, so that no one will fall, through following the same example of disobedience. In this last passage Paul points out not to judge others for observing days but certainly is not say you should observe days as is a law. Romans 14:5-6 5One person regards one day above another, another regards every day alike. Each person must be fully convinced in his own mind. 6He who observes the day, observes it for the Lord, and he who eats, does so for the Lord, for he gives thanks to God; and he who eats not, for the Lord he does not eat, and gives thanks to God. |

2 | Sunday Sabbath or not? | Ex 20:8 | elder4yhwh | 232819
The very same scriptures you use supports my point (Sabbath Keeping) Jesus fulfilled the law that's why picking up sticks is not as strict during the appearing of Christ. Paul is stating to leave people alone(bother them) concerning meats, days etc. Just let that person be conviced in their own mind. And just because a person thinks the Sabbath should be observed I'm not going to beat them over the head and say "OH YOU'RE SO WRONG!" I just want to know where Jesus says it's no longer valid alot of people use those scriptures to quote Paul but they leave out Act 17:2; Acts 18:4; Acts 13th chapter hummmm. Now on the other hand every time Jesus healed someone on the Sabbath the Pharasees/Sadduess told him he was breaking the law because he was healing (to them that was work). Each time an healing took place and they accussed Him he let them know that it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath because he is "Lord of the Sabbath" (Mark 2:27) Paul said that the commandment is holy as well as the law (Romans 7th Chapter) Paul states the need for the law.My question will always be, God gave 10 commandments and a person would point out the one that says "remember" is there anywhere where Jesus took that out if he fulfilled the law does that mean I can commit adultry?? because that's the one I want to pick out (I'm being sarcastic) I don't see where Jesus gave us authority to put any of them away. People say Paul, Paul, Paul but I'm looking for Jesus' point of view not Paul's... |

3 | Sunday Sabbath or not? | Ex 20:8 | Beja | 232827
elder4yhwh, Two big thoughts regarding your post, next one will be in seperate post due to space limits. 1. What Paul says is God's word. That is one of the foundational convictions we have, the inspiration of the entire cannon. We hold it to be both inerrant and authoritative. That is also one of the views you affirm to work under when you sign into the forum. Now, from my reading of the TOU, that does not mean you actually must believe in the inerrancy of scripture to post here. Rather it simply means that all your posts must agree to work under that assumption. That means we do not divide Paul and Jesus. We seek to see how their words work in harmony. Because our fundamental assumption is that they agree since both are the words of God and God does not contradict himself. Now we then strive to prove their harmony. But we first hold that conviction and then strive towards the proof. Now it seems to me that your dissatisfaction with being answered from the words of Paul hint your rejection of that notion. I hope I'm wrong. There were many things that Jesus either did not teach, or did not teach with plainness during his time on earth. Jesus affirmed this and also assured us that the Holy Spirit would later lead us into all truth. He also informed his apostles as to a right reading of all of scripture and how to understand what had come about. Joh 16:12 "I have many more things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. Joh 16:13 "But when He, the Spirit of truth, comes, He will guide you into all the truth; for He will not speak on His own initiative, but whatever He hears, He will speak; and He will disclose to you what is to come. Luk 24:27 Then beginning with Moses and with all the prophets, He explained to them the things concerning Himself in all the Scriptures. So we understand the apostles, including Paul, to be teaching authoritatively and accurately the things of God. Why do we include Paul? In Galatians and many other places (note the visions he claims in Ephesians and 2 Corinthians) he makes clear that no man taught him the things of God and the gospel but rather God himself has taught him. So that is how we must read the New Testament. I once had a seminary professor express disdain for red letter bibles. His reason was that it implies the red words are more so the words of God than the black words. Now I have no objection to red letter bibles but his point was valid. It is ALL the words of God. In Christ, Beja |
