1 | Animals in the New Testament? | Prov 12:12 | MWLaine | 187356 | ||
Thank you lionheart, I have been struggling with why I consider this over attention to animals sin and Matthew 6:33 nails it. I have always held to the idea that animals are animals. The dog I am petting today could be dinner tomorrow given my pressed need to feed my family. I suppose some people would find that a little twisted but I think God put all things here on earth for the good of men and women whom are made in Gods likeness. Plus, I also think that animals have a work purpose, as well, in deserving to have a relationship with the human they serve. Cats catch and eat mice and other vermin that bring disease around the household. Dogs provide an early warning system for danger. For this service we feed them thus maintaining their loyalty. It seems though that people pamper their pets as if they have a greater intrinsic value than what I can find to be biblical. My belief is that Idol Worship and False Gods, akin to the way Egyptians Worshipped Animals, is at the root of this problem. MWLaine |

Hello MWLaine, Warm greetings, I'm In agreement with you, on (over) attention and affection toward pets, being borderline if not full on idolatry. And I would agree that if my family needed food we may well be having, sweet and sour pooch or bow-wow wantons or perhaps even a standing cat roast. But, however, and I'm probably not the first to say, that I wouldn't give a nickel for a man's salvation, if even his dog and cat were not better off for it. God bless. John |
