Therefore I would say that I personally don’t trust people who don’t have a love of animals. Because if you don’t have a love or respect for one of Gods lower creations how could you love one of your own kinds?

When I decided I wanted to marry the woman who is my wife, it was because of what I saw in her heart. And the love, and forgiveness, that she shows to me spills out towards all that God has made. She's sad when the Easter Lilly dries up. How much more so when a cat suffers? She has a depth and appreciation for the value and meaningfulness of life. What a greater burden she feels towards those of humanity who are lost, and dying in their sins! Even God takes the time and concern to feed His creatures, great and small. Love in Christ, Mark |

Mark, Covering both of your posts in one post. Well the last couple of years post salvation(2002) my garden has suffered because I am immersed in a new endeavor, namely consumption of as much of the Word of God as I can read from the bible, and from various commentaries, and such. I am looking to sharpen my evangelical gift and prepare myself fully for each new foray into the world of the lost. Yes God feeds his creatures. Why because they are His, not ours. Even when we spend some of the money(Gods money) we have earned on purchasing a pet we have only still affirmed that God owns what is His. The little ball of fur that he has now put into your possesion is a test of what will you now do? In your case it is Hermit-Crabs. But you decided to have them...So was it Gods will? or Your will? that put them into your possesion. You could take them and release them to their natural habitat where they will get along just fine or you could continue to possess them. I have no real preference and am not alluding, to you, that you should change your course. Examination of the heart is what I am trying to get people to do when it comes to pets, hobbies, and other interests, that remove from men the hunger for the perfect relationship to God, through his Son Jesus. I am just stating the obvious in that, for me, time spent in an endeavor contrary to developing and using my spiritual gift seems to be senseless. I do see a value to putting a pet into the hands of a child who should learn the value of taking care of something outside of their own selfish needs. My little girl likes cats and we even had two in our home for a short period which I had to put the kybosh on because of undue strain put on mom, and I, when trying to keep a tidy-clean house. My little girl was saddened when the cats were sent away but mom and I were full of happiness that one less requirement to our already busy lives was put aside. Yeah!!! Seems to me that there was a patron Saint to animals. So I would assume that God, through the Holy Spirit, gives gifts of all types to different men and women. What then do we do to develop what we have been given because our gifts are to be shared with all men and women, and not...as I said before...to be hidden beneath a bushel basket. Hi MW, I gotta agree with you that we need to be conscious of what we spend our time on, and examine ourselves lest we waste what God's given to us. Love in Christ, Mark |

5 | Animals in the New Testament? | Prov 12:12 | gkidder | 187612
We seem to be obsessed with doing what God has commanded us to do. And the most important of these commandments is to love God with all your heart, mind, and spirit. And to love one another as well. I am not obsessed, but have the passion and desire to please God, period! I think God gave me a compassionate heart when it comes to the care of an animal. And the care of a child, and the care of an elderly person, and the care of a fellow Christian who is in need of counseling or friendship. I care for people who suffer physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. I find it troubling to suggest that I’m not able to keep a balance of what I am passionate about. I also feel God has given me a talent to be a gardener but it’s not an obsession. Every thing is done to glorify God, and I pray that what ever I do it is to glorify his name. There are many forms of idol worship, and being puffed up, obstinate and opinionated is just as wrong as some one who puts the love of anything first before God. The whole point of this forum was to evaluate the relationship people have with their pets. I suggested looking at the book of Geneses to see what kind of relationship Adam had with the animals in the garden of Edom. And what was the commandment God had given him pertaining to the creators. Wasn’t he commanded to name all of them? What was the signifagents to God wanting Adam to name them? And weren’t they first created by God to be a companion to Adam? And how were they created by God? Could it be possible that God created them by breathing life into them just like he did with Adam? What was the reason for animals to be present when Jesus Christ was born? Why did God bother to mention that the lion will lay down with the lamb? Why is Christ going to ascend from heaven riding a white horse? Why were there animal sacrifices performed for the forgiveness of sins? Could it be because God considered animals as innocent? The point is simple, It’s better for an animal to be loved by a Christian that an unbeliever. And to use that love to some how glorify God by witnessing to others Gods love for all His creation. Especially ours. In Christ Jesus our lord and savoir and creator |
