Appleseed - What you are proclaiming, of course, is a version of what is commonly known as the "Gap Theory." But don't you think that your theory puts enormously more of man's imagination and speculation between verses 1 and 2 of Genesis 1 than the Holy Spirit ever revealed in the entire creation account? What I am really saying is that in your two back-to-back posts you have been working diligently on the construction of a theoretical building which has no scriptural foundation. ...... Genesis 1:1: "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." This is a summary statement which introduces what is to follow and is used in much the same way as a title for a chapter or a book. ..... Genesis 1:2: "The earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters." So where is the "destruction" in this verse? There is no destruction in verse 2 and no gap beteen 1:1 and 1:2. Verse 2 simply describes a work in progress. God is not finished with His creation! Give Him time to do His work, for goodness sake! Creation of a universe is not a piece of cake, you know -- try it sometime. :-) After all, God did in six days what evolutionists like Carl Sagan said took "billions and billions of years." ...... Goodness knows the Bible is complex and hard enough to understand as it is. Why O why do we insist on making it more complex by piling on gap theories and other baggage that is not a part of the word of God. Why don't we throw man's theories in the trash heap where they've always belonged and take God's word for what it actually says and accept it for what it really is: the lamp to our feet and the light to our path? As we say here in the Ozarks, "These cock-eyed theories ain't gonna get nobody to heaven or even put bread in one hungry belly." --Hank | ||||||

Hank, I don't know of any "Gap Theory" all I know is what the Bible says and thus shared it. Like Paul says, "Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." 2 Tim 2:15. These verses that were provided only explain one thing, no dotted line - wasn't a time after nor is it for time to come but before. Is it important to know the truth - of course, please refer to the post I shared with Doc on how it impacts bringing people to Jesus. In the Living Vine |

Hi, Appleseed... Here's a link that talks about the Gap Theory and a little of its history: http://www.christiananswers.net/q-aig/aig-c003.html Also, just an aside, the value of a theory ought not be measured in how something "impacts bringing people to Jesus." Our faith is very practical, but we are not pragmatists. In Him, Doc |
